[history]
The American personality might be characterized as an easygoing, sentimental, fair-minded ruthlessness. We tie yellow ribbons round the old oak tree at the same moment that we dispatch a wing of B-52s to carpet bomb the enemy. No murderer in the world gets as many appeals from his conviction as an American murderer. But when we have finished being fair (about the same length of time that a French murderer has to spend in prison before being released), we fry him. More recently, to show our gentle side, we have taken to killing our murderers with a painless lethal injection.

We tie yellow ribbons round the old oak tree I never liked the yellow ribbons, yellow is coward color...
no surprise it made it's entry under Carter...
Americans FIGHT under a Red, White and Blue flag and that is that.

Good article, but please NO Jimmy Carter yellow ribbons (Iran hostage crisis) - they have their roots in hand wringing and wimpy pleading. Put out the U.S. flag instead.

The enemies of freedom and America made a dire, dumb mistake-- they judged us by our popular culture- the rubbish you see on TV- rather than by what we really are.
The first modern practisioner of this misapprehension was Osama ben Laden, and we all suspect he's taking a long dirt nap somewhere, but he really wasn't the first...
Go ask the "Thousand-Year Reich" or the "Greater Southeast Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" what happens when you kick the America Eagle...
Can't find any members of those groups? Funny, I seem to recall that we simply annihilated them...

It should be remembered that the yellow ribbon is symbol of the Calvary.
"in her hair she wore a yellow ribbon,
she wore a yellow ribbon for her man far away
far away
far away
she wore a yellow ribbon for her man far away."

Send in the calvary,
the duke would understand.
