U.S. Marines Under Attack North of Nassiriya
Wed March 26, 2003 01:38 AM ET NORTH OF NASSIRIYA (Reuters) - U.S. Marines met armed Iraqi resistance on Wednesday, halting their advance north from Nassiriya, a Reuters correspondent said. Correspondent Sean Maguire, traveling with Marine units, said the advance was halted at the town of Ash Shatrah, 25 miles north of Nassiriya where Marines had crossed the Euphrates river on Tuesday after fierce fighting. "The Marines have called in artillery strikes on to the town," he said.

My sentiments exactly. Note how the Marines are "under attack" when, in fact, they are the ones moving forward and hence are not "under attack" but attacking.

but they only moved 25 miles,i guess the iraqis tactic is working
Against actual armed opposition moving 25 miles a day is moving at supersonic speed, in terms of military history.
What Iraqi "tactic" is working? The one where they try to stop us from moving and die in droves? I guess that "tactic" is working.

I don't understand. What is the Iragi tactic--to slow us down by blocking the road with their rotting corpses?

Your socks are on your feet. These are located at the bottoms of your legs. If you can't find them there, you are a UN inspector.

"There was an account of how a storm came during the last Desert Storm War and it caused all the buried land mines to come to the surface."You obviously have never had to drive in formation with hundreds of other vehicles in a 60 mph sandstorm. Throw in a river crossing and a few hundred prisoners to search, a few firefights, and all of a sudden 25 miles seems reasonable.
I won't fault you for not knowing what you don't know, but you should check your comments, lest you offend. SENTINEL=USMC GWI Vet.

looks like you posted the wrong quote into your post... good post, though.
We'll only have to travel those 25 miles once, I hope--and that means that was a permanent gain. If it takes a week to get to Baghdad, that will be fine by me, they need to get some rest, and the defenders already have taken all the time they need to prepare defenses.

I'm looking forward to the residents of Baghdad meeting our friend, Spectre, when it comes out to feed at night. That is a sound that they will never forget. That will be the real shock and awe.
