No mention of his religion. His name is John, as I'm guessing Christian.

Hopefully he, speaking Arabic, will be the substitute for Saddam on the Iraq TV frequencies.

Hopefully we will soon control *all* of their frequencies. Apparently Iraqi satellite TV still works, and they've got normal TV on in a fuzzy sort of way.

I have met him multiple times as our paths have crossed a few times in the last 5 years.
He is simply the best we have. People were talking about him as a future Chairman of the JCS or Army Chief of Staff when he was a battalion commander.
He is Roman Catholic, also.

He's [Abidsaid] also a three-star general, deputy commander of the U.S. Central Command and the No. 2 official leading the war against Iraq.Seriously -- would a Muslim be entrusted to this lofty position in the U.S. military? Ever??

Seriously -- would a Muslim be entrusted to this lofty position in the U.S. military? Ever?? Why not? He has a 30 year track record of distinguished service to his country.
To: Non-Sequitur
Might be better if he were a Muslim.

If I had to venture a guess, it would be Eastern Orthodox.

Sure thing. I'm certain there is no end to the suicidal PC-ness of our government.
To: Shermy
Might be better if he were a Muslim. He is a highly qualified, extremely competent general officer. I wouldn't care if he was a Druid.
To: Shermy
Sadly, I disagree. Muslims should not, I repeat NOT, be allowed on active duty in the U.S. Forces until it is made clear by universally recognized Islamic authorities that they are as religiously obligated to follow their military superiors as Christians and Jews.
I would not want a Muslim troop in the foxhole next to me if we were fighting a Muslim enemy. Simply put, would not, COULD NOT, trust him.

He's Maronite...fine by me. I have about 1/32 Maronite blood myself. My ex-wife was full blooded Phalange from Brasil and my 2 girls are half Maronite.
Most of them dislike the Islamists even more than we do. They've been quarreling with them since Salahdin (sic).
