I wondered about this myself! You'd think they would recognize their own fellow Iraqis, and realize that Americans and some Brits are going to appear mostly caucasian, with some Blacks, Hispanics, and Am.Indians being of darker skin and hair mixed in. However, if they're at a distance, I can see where they would think that Arabs could be American, if they are a number of them in a group.
