Interesting. But, technology has changed and getting a guided weapon to hit a very specific point, at an oblique angle, is possible. Let's wait and see.

Query: Does Saddam have sufficient equipment inside to help him burrow through, say, about 10 feet of reinforced concrete if we should decide to seal him inside his bunkers from the outside?

Don't you just love Reuters? If there's anything they can find that appears bad for the war effort or America, they're going to print it. And it's extremely doubtful that those bunkers are impervious with our technology.

Hmm, does it float? A little Army Corps of Engineers river diversion project should do the trick...

Would not thermal imaging technology detect changes in temperature around air ducts and other means of egress?
To: xJones
1970 bunkers, 2003 technology. Nuff said.
To: talleyman
And they said there were no more major water projects to build. LOL.

Saddam's bunkers said "impossible" to destroyAn hazardous word, especially for inhabitants of that bunker.

Pre-buried?
How accommodating.

"Impossible to destroy" I bet our military folks have a chuckle over that. Even if it were really secure, it still takes power and even generators need to breath and let out exhaust - seems like there would be several ways to get them even if we didn't do the "impossible".

These bunkers can resist a direct hit of a 20 kilotonne- strong bomb or atomic bomb IIRC, we exceeded that by several orders of magnitude 50 years ago on a little island in the South Pacific called Elugalab, which doesn't happen to exist anymore. With a little luck, maybe the ordnance guys loading the B-52 bomb racks at Fairfield and Diego Garcia may have goofed and left one of them on board ...

Underground bunkers built for Iraqi President Saddam Hussein can resist massive bombardment and those hiding inside could survive for up to six monthsPerfect. Let's take him hostage back.

Yeah, right. We are Americans, land of the free, home of the brave, the land of the best and the brightest. If we want to destroy those bunkers, they will be destroyed.
