Isn't there a difference between "Muslims" and Black Muslims, aka the Nation of Islam? Does "mainstream" Islam of Middle Eastern Culture, truly identify with the teachings of Farrakan? IIRC, mainstream Muslims regard Nation of Islam as heretical for its explicitly racist teachings and general goofiness (not too many spaceships in the Qu'ran). In practice, in my completely non-expert opinion, it seems like mainstream Islam has been steadily radicalizing over the past few decades to the point where, thought its theology differs from NoI, its attitudes are similar. (There are exceptions to this trend, such as pro-America, pro-Israel, anti-terror Sheikh Abdul Palazzi of Italy.)

I have a feeling that Farrakhan would be willing to "mainstream" NoI into Wahabbi-style Islam, if there were some Saudi bucks involved. I would not be surprised to find out the Saudis and/or Sadaam had been courting Farrakhan.
