Outspoken documentarian Michael Moore split the audience at Sunday night's Academy Awards by repeating his verbal attack on President George W. Bush. Moore used his 45-second acceptance speech for Best Documentary to blast Bush, as he had on Saturday at the Independent Spirit Awards. The director, who invited his fellow nominees to join him onstage to show their solidarity in his message to the President, received a standing ovation from most of the Oscars audience but a minority booed as he hammered Bush. Moore said, "We live in a fictitious time. We live in a time where we have a fictitious President conducting a war for fictitious reasons. We are against this war Mr. Bush. Shame on you." Oscar host Steve Martin helped to calm things down after Moore bounded offstage by joking, "The teamsters are helping Michael Moore into the trunk of his limo." But Moore continued his rant backstage when he faced the press. When he was asked why he chose to make his comments at the Academy Awards, he said, "I'm an American and you don't leave your citizenship when you enter the Kodak Theatre." He then played down the booing that could be heard during his speech: "Those were all my friends and relatives. I said Hollywood has got such a bad rap for being a bunch of left wingers it would be really cool if a bunch of you booed. But, seriously, do your jobs - don't report there was a split decision in the hall because five wild people booed."

Seeing Michael Moore is like discovering a big glob of fat in your bbq sandwich.

You know, the audience did applaud, they also booed and most sat with stupid smiles like deer in the headlights. This man should be shipped to Iraqi and dropped into the middle of Baghdad. The only problem is that I don't think Saddam's army would touch him with a ten foot pole.

I just saw Hannity and Colmes with Micheal Moore's thing at the Oscar...
Disgusting....
the more disgusting part was seeing Denzel Washington and Dustin Hoffman with their smug looks...
I am so glad I don't go to the movies...

Per a guy (who was there at the awards) on the Bob & Ken radio show in LA today the biggest boos came from the technical people and the stage hands
Having worked in Hollywood myself for about a year this is about right. While the talent (there term for actors) and studio big shots are mostly left wing the technical people are regular Americans and run conservative in views
I was working for long hours and many days at ABC TV Hollywood in the broadcast bunker during the 2000 election and the great chad war.
Of the 15 or so broadcast engineers there I say 14 were conservative to very conservative (funny as hell to see them yelling an there own newscasts bias)
PS The talent and studio big shots treat everone else (the "little people") like shit...far worse then any other biz I've ever seen... so much about the left carring more about regular people

Seeing Moore walking down the aisle to accept his Oscar, he looked like the big fat kid who decided to go stag to prom because he doesnt have a date.
I think he spawned from an empty Big Mac wrapper.

Most of the reports both written and on TV report that he received a mixture of cheers and boos. That is a deceptive way of reporting it while being technically true. I saw it on the TV and I played your link here to the audio and the truth is that they cheered him when he went up to accept the award and mentioned that he brought the other nominees up on stage with him. But, AS SOON as they realized the anti-BUSH, anti-WAR things he was saying there was almost ALL BOOS and it was loud. He tried to out shout the booing but they just kept on loud and steady and within seconds he music came up louder to drown him out and chase him off stage.
Personally, I thought it was awesome! hehehehe! Hollywood ain't good for much, but they did this well.

I've worked in television for three years and on-air talent are the biggest pompous arses. I swear our anchors and reporters here are having a cow with the war.

Since Moore won, I want to press the Academy for awards due other "fact based " documentaries that they missed.
The Rutles. 1978
This Is Spinal Tap. 1984
Here's a Moore pressroom ( backstage after the award ) quote everyone should hear;
"I wish they would get the troops off the networks"
Nothing else need be said.

You know, the audience did applaud, they also booed and most sat with stupid smiles like deer in the headlights. They were applauding when he took a shot at the election of 2000. As his diatribe continued, he shifted from the election to the war, as he did so the boos began to drown out the initial applause.
But the silence of most of the orchestra section seats was a tacit agreement with what he was saying.

Interesting insight. The heck with "talent" ... some of the fit the very definition of "meat puppets."
I've always been partial to crewing myself... :-)
