You mean DEPLETED URANIUM tipped shells??? Well of course we use those to bust up tanks but...it's not radioactive waste. Sounds like that might be what the idiots on the left are freaking about...

Depleted uranium is a major topic on the Radio Taliban affiliate I monitor (KPFA-Berkeley). According to them it is the second coming of agent orange. A major cause of cancer in Iraqi children who play with spent shells, etc. I wouldn't mind reading something on the subject from a rational source, if anyone knows of such.

Think about it. We manufacture it and load it onto airplanes. How bad could it be?

Discussion of health effects of external exposure, ingestion, and inhalation of depleted uranium.

Depleted uranium is not a significant health hazard unless it is taken into the body. External exposure to radiation from depleted uranium is generally not a major concern because the alpha particles emitted by its isotopes travel only a few centimeters in air or can be stopped by a sheet of paper. Also, the uranium-235 that remains in depleted uranium emits only a small amount of low-energy gamma radiation. However, if allowed to enter the body, depleted uranium, like natural uranium, has the potential for both chemical and radiological toxicity with the two important target organs being the kidneys and the lungs. The most likely pathways by which uranium could enter the body are ingestion and inhalation. The relative contribution of each pathway to the total uptake into the body depends on the physical and chemical nature of the uranium, as well as the level and duration of exposure.

The potential health risks associated with uranium compounds are discussed in further detail in Chapter 4 of the PEIS.

The cause of those cancers (occuring in 91 (!) and later) - as if a war that happened in 90 would cause a cancer diagnosed (how? - By who?) ...

ALL (statistically speaking)

... occur in regions in the south of Iraq where HIS chemical and nerve agents were used to kill Iranians and Iraq civilians.

Add in lies by Saddamn's staff, false funerals of children, ies by UN agencies who have their own agenda of hate, and lies (excuse me - "estimates") by the press covering this story and you account for the numbers.

Add also the starvation and povery already there, and the polution form his oil wells/refineries, and the medical aid siphoned off to UN funds in Swiss and France banks instead of treatment for the children ......
