I thought I had read where the Senate had already agreed to gut the tax cut by $100 billion and put it in Defense. Not sure if that was just committee work or what. This was last week I think before the war started.

The number 90 bil (Prez said 75 today) has been floating for about a month. To say they had no idea is a lot of cr**. They're looking for the insertion of pork.

Yes, but just a procedural vote in the Senate. The House will reinstate the full tax cut, and send it to conference. The battle will be in the reconciliation package this summer to be hammered out in the conference committee.
Bottom line: ff Bush can hold the House on this, he'll get 90% or more of what he wants.
