Thought they were synonymous. Well, I don't know about that, I thought they were the same. ;)

The "military analyst" is wrong. After the test several weeks ago, there were only two in existance. Three MOAB versions were ordered built in late January. They were finished by the first week of March.
We can churn these things out pretty quick.

Don't know about the MOAB's, but those large explosions to the south of Baghdad that just shook the center of the city might have been Daisy Cutters used to clear the mine fields. That's one of their original uses.

Somewhat OT, but everyone's on this thread. Just saw my first PSA on Seattle TV with directions to the Dept. of Homeland Security readiness site. Are these showing elsewhere? The announcer mentioned the standard "3 days supplies, etc., etc." but then followed specifically with "some type of breathing protection for every member of the family". It gave myself and the misses chills. Anyone know anything?

Infrared is a spectrum of non-visible light that is generated a power source and visible with night vision devices
Thermal uses heat ONLY. No heat = no image
The next generation of Night vision goggles use a combination of of light amplification and thermal. Very clear image.
There are now IR Illumination rounds for mortars, etc. Fired into the sky and illuminate the area in IR. No NVGs = you don't see squat.
