Here we go with Basra uprising...
Rummy: What's going on is that Coalition came in from the South bypassed Basra. Brits have task of cleaning up. Fedayeen moving into Basra pretending to surrender....Uprising not against the US. Saddamn's people shooting people who are trying to surrender.

I have no doubt. The winter of last year (and I'm an Upstate New Yorker) was wonderful. The warm sunny days kept our spirits up and permitted the WTC cleanup to continue without delay.

More Q&A:
Press still harping on "difficulties".
Do they just ask questions? I mean, do they listen at all to the answers?

Finally caught up on this thread! I understand about serious/unserious and can really see both sides. Honestly, a thread like this hits news lulls and people need a break from the brutal reality which is War - so I don't have a problem with a little levity to help us unstress. But I also see the point of people who are not in the mood for that.
Here is my compromise: Earlier someone aluded to 'Amish Belly Girl' which set me off on a tangent all morning. I'm not going to bother this thread with it, but I did add my $0.02 to the Belly Girl Thread.

Rumsfeld taking him to school And then Myers.
Rumsfeld and Myers say we are on track, despite the medias' attempt to portray it as otherwise.
Question about Basrah uprising. Report of British coalition member killed.
Rumsfeld: Coalition forces came from south. Fedayeen and Saddam "people", more like terrorists, and are not threat to this campaign. Terrorist-type threat. Until regime is changed and Saddam gone these dead-enders will be down there. Rumsfeld felt implication of question was uprising again U.S. and coalition, it is not and they are rising up against Saddam's people and it takes a "whale of a lot of courage".

They aren't that selective. They fry all electronics within a mile radius. Understood, but it doesn't seem like turning off the lights over a few square blocks in Baghdad would cause a humanitarian disaster for the civilian population, getting Iraqi propaganda off the air would be worth it, and we could transmit from the air after we take Baghdad until we get replacement parts into the TV station.

Hahaha. Rummy saying he can't control retired military being analysts. Anyone who has a sense about what's taking places recognizes the complexities of this. These things are not done easily.
To: retrokitten
Would you say you have not quite adequately managed the expectations of the American people? (Miss Marple throws pillow at TV.) Rummy is brining up the quagmore story from Afghanistan. Says he can't control what people say, and if they choose to say it often enough some people begin to believe it is true. We don't shoot people with wrong stories, unlike Iraq. (Ha!) Complexity of this effort should be obvious to most people.
To: this_ol_patriot
Taking them to school on what we do and what Iraqi's do like shooting their own people, we don't shoot ours. (Why me Lord look)
To: scriblett
With all due respect, I won't waste my time trying to refute ignorant drivel from the left. Just not worth the time.

Agreed, but they are getting up my nose

Rummy's answer was Excellent to that, I agree. Said if people here stuff enough they begin to believe it even if it isn't true.
Now he's talking about the Movietones that used to give the weeks news summary of the war.
