Sean Astin prays for troops. Tehanu @ 6:36 am EST Sean Astin appeared on Joan and Melissa Rivers' miniature red carpet to send a message out to our troops in Iraq, via television. In short, he said that since the beginning of the war he got down on bended knee to pray for them, and that he's still praying for them and for a victory, and that he hopes for their safe return. Also, Joan and Melissa asked him if it was a disappointment to them (the LotR cast and crew) that Peter Jackson wasn't nominated. Sean replied by explaining that they had pretty much prepared themselves for disappointment with these films (implying that they are getting less credit than due). Overall, Sean was very serious and genuine, and kept a solemn air about him.

Who is Sean Astin?
He also was one of the crew in "Memphis Belle".
I snagged the little passage below from his official website www.seanastin.com.
I've seen him on The Craig Kilborne Show (sorry, but I just love "In The News").
Astin seems to be the exception in Hollywood: married, stable, patriotic, thoughtful.
I'd buy him a beer or two.
Sean Astin on Memphis Belle
I'll never forget being with David Puttnam and Mathew Modine in Japan on January
15, 1991 promoting Memphis Belle. I had asked David to bring me with him when it came
time to publicize the film in Asia. I was sitting on a dais preparing to field
questions about making an "American War Movie", when I glanced at my watch and saw
that it was 12:00 back home...the UN Deadline had just expired and coalition airplanes
were about to begin a massive bombing campaign in the air above Kuwait and Iraq.
I remember feeling later that day that my country was at war and I needed to get home.
The irony was not lost on me. I think the real value of our film is that it
attempts to show, in a realistic way, human faces during a critical moment in
the evolution of American Air Supremacy.
Pretty atypical thought process for a Hollywood guy, huh?

Sean Astin was wonderful when EWTN interviewed the cast for TTT. He brushed aside the idea that Sam was the greater hero saying (about Frodo) "It's much harder to suffer."

'Celebs' Use Stardom to Promote Army
Xoanon @ 2:27 pm EST
WASHINGTON -- Actor Sean Astin and wrestler Bradshaw are among celebrities who are using their stardom to increase troop morale and keep the military fresh in the minds of Americans.
Astin, who is known for his roles in "Rudy" and the "Lord of the Rings," visited the Pentagon Jan. 30 to record public service announcements thanking troops for their service and re-emphasizing America's trust in its military

Wow, what bold witness by Sean Astin. God bless him!
I've also been very impressed with things I've read about Elijah Wood.
These are two actors to definitely watch for in the future.

actor son of Patty Duke and John Astin Although it has been widely reported that he was actually fathered by Desi Arnaz, Jr. prior to the Duke-Astin union.
To: mstar
Astin seems to have his head on straight, which is unusual for a Hollywood brat.
And don't forget, he was Mikey in the Goonies.

Thanks for the ping, Lawgirl! I can't tell you how I needed this as I try to justify my love for the Lord of the Rings movies, with Viggo and now Andy Serkis both being outed as anti-Americans.
Samwise Gamgee has always been my favorite character in this epic film, and this just gives me another reason for feeling this way.

All who appreciate the stand that Sean has taken might consider an e-mail to his web site or write to thank him for the encouagement.
In the Hollywood set, I would think it would be a lonely road for an actor of Sean's convictions. Yet, he has shown no bitterness, only a "Samwise" grace.
He has, of late, been the main representative of the cast and crew for " The Lord Of The Rings" at the various awards shows. An industry that has used the money "Rings" brought, only to be snubbed by these same award shows of the Hollywood "p.c".
He was not acknowledged at all Sunday at the Oscars, except when he went to the "E Studio" in order to thank our troops and let them know he is praying and standing with them.

The performances by Elijay Wood, Sean Astin, Sean Bean!!!, and Viggo Mortenson especially deserve Oscars for their actual value as what they are, Great Performances!! But because not a one of them is perverse, degenerate or homosexually explicit, they won't be given any credit where they are due. Not by Hollywood anyway.

I've read Patty Duke's autobiography "Call Me Anna". I truly think that Patty has a conservative streak in her - she and her husband made it a point to raise their kids as normally as possible, including getting them to church regularly, etc. etc. etc.

Well, he is a Democrat, I don't want anyone to be shocked when they find that out. But his patriotism and his values are real.
In an interview I saw about how he got involved in his president's council work, he said that he was, of his own volition, attending the 9/11 memorial at the Pentagon. A State Dept aide recognized and approached him to ask him if he would want to participate as a celebrity voice for the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, a volunterism group. He said, Really? - But I am a Democrat! - The state Dept official said, "that doesn't matter! - It's not partisan!" and he said "sure I would!"

(Hopeless optimist alert) Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Jack Nicolson, many of the names that have lasted a long time and didn't burn out, have pretty classy reputations. It doesn't hurt, certainly, to be part of a focus group, in that crowd, but I do think if you are clean, not only are you still well respected, but they also seem to last longer. I have hope!

The actors that you have listed have all performed in movies that have a pro-homosexual theme. Any actor performing in those type roles are the "Hollywood darlings" and on the "A-list", thus Oscars nom., awards, ect.

Viggo Mortenson has spoiled Aragorn for me forever. I was so thoroughly convinced of Aragorn until that actor had to do his prissy little display. Interesting that we haven't heard a peep from him since then. Why hasn't he been in the forefront of all these 'no blood for oil' demos if he was so concerned? And Andy Serkis now??? All I do now is just roll my eyes. I am not angry anymore. Just bored.
As for Sean...I KNEW there was a reason I liked him!!! He was very good in Toy Soldiers...hubba hubba...
I still have a thing for Pippin though....
