The Iraqis' choices appears to be limited...suicide if they do and suicide if they don't.

They are called the Republican Guard. The problem is they have to figure out how to move the suicide attackers from their tanks and into the ranks of the US forces.

Let's expect them to be waving a white flag while having bombs strapped to them.

The facts appear to be that the Ba'th regime has decided to continue a policy of delay.
Modest resistance from regulars followed quicly by their melting into the woodwork followed by their reappearence as a decenralized, irregular, gorilla force.

Religious Zealotry and a lack of education or independent thought.

They already have mobilized many suicide attackers. It's called any Iraqi soldier who doesn't surrender.

Suicide is the last gasp of a dying regime.

I suspect that they will hide among fleeing refugees and blow themselves up whenever they can get near a US serviceman or truck or other piece of equipment. Perhaps they will hide an RPG or machine gun until they get close enough to open fire, forcing our troops to shoot at unarmed civilians as well as terrorists.
I sure hope that the people in charge of the coalition forces are telling our troops to stay away from "refugees" and to keep them far from our men.

One necessary ingrediant for suicide attacks which the Iraqis do not have a whole lot of is time...
In WW-II, kamikazi attacks only achieved notable results in situations in which carriers were being held on station (immobile) to protect one or another of the island invasions. When the fast carrier groups were operating in their normal attack mode, they generally did not present targets long enough to stage kamikaze raids against them.

Bad gene pool.
Seriously, though, having been born and raised in freedom, we take it for granted. We forget how extraordinary our forefathers who fought for our independence were.
I am also reminded of how truly "revolutionary" Jesus Christ was. He was a voice of compassion and reason in a cesspool of savagery.
We are seeing "people" who still live in that cesspool and who do not have the self respect to reach for civilization.

"I don't get it... why are they willing to die for Saddam? Is it just ignorance or is there something we're missing?" I think I figured it out. Here...If you don't stand for something, you may fall for anything.
In Iraq....If you don't die for something, you may just live. Huh? Forget it. There's no 'splainin' this.
