Oh boy...I wonder what happens to the packages? Does this mean the guys have more than enough? What about the troops whose family or friends don't send anything? Wonder what happens if people send them anyway...you know they will.. ::thinking outloud::

A local car dealership is collecting boxes from the public. My daughter and I are using "soldier shopping" as a spring break good deed.

We sent a package to a good friend in 82nd over weekend:

hard candy

eye drops
nasal spray
comics
magazines

puzzles
and a disp camera with a mascot to take pictures with (bald eagle) and send home for our annual multi-family beach gathering which it appears he will be absent

Really cool, the lady at the register found out what we were doing helped us change to all store brands and produced a coupon discounting all store brand items 15%.

If it's addressed to someone, it'll get to them. They won't allow packages addressed to "Any Servicemember" to be delivered...actually, I don't think the post office will even accept it.

The DoD email is just trying to stop people from broadcasting real servicemember addresses on the internet for just anyone to send to.

That's my understanding, anyway...

not sure on the credit card thing. The site my wife visits has names of actual serviceman posted that many people are using. I will have to get more details from her on permissions and such. Unfortunately, she is napping now. I will get back with you.

That makes sense..I was afraid they were thinking of security reasons and possibly contamination issues. (my mind must be working overtime thanks to all the negative news..)

Check with USO first before buying and sending these well intentioned items to forward deployed troops.

Right now they are moving fast and only limited mail from blood relatives has got a prayer of reaching frontline troops right now.

Best to support troops families left behind, donate blood and organize rallies to flood media with a supportive homefront, which hopefully they will broadcast over to our troops.

Sending these items may make you feel good, but the objective is to help the troops and their families in the most effective and needed manner.

Woolworth has plastic jars of spices..just about everything... that they put on sale for 60 cents all the time.
