Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

i have a question for the folks tuned in here. why didn't the taliban retreat into the cities and force us into house to house fighting? that seems to be our greatest fear with baghdad, why didn't it happen in all the afghan cities? my own opinion is that perhaps since the taliban had someplace to go (pakistan), they were more willing to retreat then to stand and fight it out. thoughts? Since they held off Ivan in teh mountains around Tora BOra they thought they could hold us off too. Ops at 10,000 feet in rugged terrain isn't easy.
The book Jihad written by an British SAS who helped the muj in the early 1980s tells their tale.

I'm just listening to these media war experts. They're making an awful lot of noise about the tragedies on our rear flank. Do they realize how many would have been lost if we had engaged those cities?? They sure don't look at the big picture.
The media's monocle sees only what's in front of its face. I've heard the blind men & the elephant analogy, and that's exactly it. We're not bypassing the cities in order to avoid useless fights, we're bypassing the cities because the highway to Baghdad bypasses those cities. We ain't taking rest stops half way there.

Treason is hard to try since you have to find direct intent against the people of this country and such, so we've been good at finding other charges with comprable punishments in the past Before we were trying to find someone who has been executed for treason. The best someone was able to do were some people in the 1700s.

But I thought they had no chemical weapons?

This might be old news, but fwiw...
http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/874525/posts EXPERTS are examining suspected Scud missiles discovered by British soldiers searching a chemical plant outside Basra.
A number of the grey-painted rockets, about 23ft long, were found in the Dirhamiyah petro-chemical plant close to Iraqs second city.
The discovery has raised suspicions that Saddam Hussein was planning to arm the missiles with chemical warheads. British officers say it is difficult to find an innocent explanation for storing missiles in a chemical plant.

Not that I know of .. Drudge is wrong unless we did an endrun around Karbala with the 1st Marines. 3ID is massing outside Karbala to take on Nebuhkannezar and Hammurabbi (or however you spell it)
Last I saw 1st Marine was dealing with Medina in An Najaf and Nasariyah.

So, in the case of this fragger, it's easier to charge him for murder, since that is evident, and he can get the death penalty. It's simpler, and i think that's the route the court martial will take

When waiting for a flat tire to be changed in the desert once, I asked an Arab how much for one of the camels wandering by. He smiled and said that they trade them for women. He laughed, but...

Thank you so much again. There is a lot more sadness in our world tonight. But our support for this important endeavor remains STRONG and my support for our President and all the Armed Forces of the US does too.
Bless you.

the media was just dutifully following his lead.
