Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Well, contact your pastor about that ad. They have plenty of other things to spend money on. I am seriously looking for another church.

was praising the 51st Division, which was the first to surrender
Don't think so. A division is 8 to 10,000 troops. We only have some 3000 prisoners. Don't let optimism and inthusiasm cloud reality or you will run into a wall.

Q: How serious is the Turkey/Kurd situation?
Wolfowitz: We're in reasonable control of the situation.

"Iran Denies Care to Militants, Kurdish Official Says "
""They went inside one kilometer, but then Iranians made them go back," said Muhammad Hagi Mahmud, leader of the Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party, which controls territory just north of the area.
The turnabout impressed Kurdish officials, who have publicly complained of Iran's evident support for Ansar. They said the sudden shift in sympathy reflects Iranian anxiety about becoming a U.S. target in the future. President Bush has listed Iran, along with North Korea and Iraq, in what he calls an "axis of evil."
"They're scared," a Kurdish official said of the Iranians. "They did not believe it until the cruise missiles arrived." "

Have you informed your superiors that this guy could be a security risk? No. I am not sure how to handle it. I only know I am getting close to losing it and telling him there are lots of positions over there...he could sign up to be a human shield.
To: Miss Marple
Anyone who still belongs to the United Methodist Church (which I left last year), your money just paid for that Kumbaya ad which just showed on Fox.
I saw that. Disgusting!

Both alive. The mother of one was interviewed and said he looks like he always does when he's really mad.
To: DonnerT
Well, I am not the expert on details...only grand strategy.
Seriously, I thought it was the 51st division, but maybe it was a brigade. Anyway, it was someone who had already surrendered.
And, are we holding all prisoners or are we allowing some to stay in barracks?
To: TexKat
Hi, Tex! How are ya?
I know, if we know where these guys are, why aren't we either expelling them from US, or bombing the $hit outa the hotel Aziz was giving interviews from. And who interviewed Aziz today? Isn't that aiding the enemy?

every denomination has its liberals and conservatives - fortunately I belong to an enlightened church. I don't really believe in lumping people together with regard to religion - I am lucky to belong to a conservative capitalist church. :)

I think you really need to drop a dime on him, Mrs. L. Just go to your supervisor in private and inform him of the situation and the need to keep an eye on the SOB, and that a security clearance re-evaluation might be in order.

During Gilf War I, the kurds streamed into Turkey. It really took a toll on Turkey's economy. Turkey is trying desparately to control a repeat of that situation.
We are now leading the Kurd army and we want them to go south, not north.
