***Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - Day 5 - LIVE THREAD***
Everywhere! | 23 Mar 2003 | An.American.Expatriate

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

To all who helped this get started, thank you!

Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Been shootin' a 1903A3, eh?

They're heavy, solidly constructed.

We used them for drill rifles (practice weapons were simple black iron, competition weapons were chromed out - neither "live" though) back at A&M in the Fish Drill Team and Ross Volunteers.

Still carry a few scars from "catching" a thrown rifle solidly "on the chin" vice firmly "in the hand."

We absolutely do not need UN support for this. We can do with an independent group of nations.

A decent Arts education includes history and a VERY good understanding of the human condition.

Reporters do NOT get a decent Arts education. They get journalism, no history, no knowledge, and no understanding.

Michael Medved on KRLA right now: next Harry Potter movie will be a parable about the evil George W. Bush. Details after commercial break. Sigh.

Call me crazy, but don't movie adaptations of books usually stick to the plot of the book??

Prediction: since we have had all the "are we there yet" questions and "quagmire" references today, I think that tomorrow they will start the whisper campaign on Tommy Franks.

"Unnamed Pentagon sources" will tell us that he is "too cautious" or "too worried about PR." "Doubts about his strategy" are "Creeping into conversation."

Mark my words.

I hope that doesn't happen but fear that it will. Pitiful. We are only four days into the ground war!

Ready for a laugh at the French expense: France considers international TV news channel

French authorities have been weighing such a venture for some time, seeing it as a means of spreading French influence, but want to press ahead even more since U.S. and British troops went to war in Iraq against Paris's wishes.

Wouldn’t it make sense for us to go back and bomb that chopper? The people standing on it are surely not interested in liberation and I would imagine that there is a lot of sensitive technology on board.

You want to hand over hundreds of billions of dollars for Iraq (the war and reconstruction)? Say goodbye to the tax cut.

Well, I must say, I got excellent education, believe it or not, in California public school back in the 60's - 70's; the human condition: I learned best from my Bible. : ) Although, I will say, I did learn alot about the social/learning/cultural beliefs aspects in my psych courses in college......and, of course, I was pretty much the lone conservative and, I wasn't shy about sharing my opinions! (Or writing term papers that I knew the professors would be diametrically opposed to.....they were well researched and written and I would get "A's" with the "even though I couldn't be more opposed to your thesis......your paper has been well written, researched, and documented; it deserves nothing less than an A" blah blah blah.....how I loved to bring up the conservative points in class! : )

Let me guess. They will only broadcast it in French. Laugh.

Why say goodbye to the tax cut? Tax cuts aren't revenue losers as scored by static idiots (Dems, journalists, tv pundits). Lowering marginal tax rates and eliminating some double taxation would be an incentive to grow the economy and pour those revenues into the treasury. State treasuries too.

Just in time for the election, no doubt.

Who is making the Harry Potter movies? What studio? We need to get on their case right now.
