[history]
Arabic news channel Al-Jazeera showed footage Sunday of what it said were five U.S. prisoners, including one woman.
The station showed footage of the alleged soldiers being questioned by their captors and being asked things such as where they were from and their names. The tape that was broadcast was reportedly provided by Iraqi television and was edited.

They are said to be wanting us to get a little rough to encourage international outrage against us. If I were them, I would be careful what i wished for, because if we do decide to wreak vengeance, the world will have to sit by and quake. It's a good thing I'm not in charge or we would be engaged in a scorched earth campaign...

It may be a little more difficult for Iraqis to surrender for the rest of the war. So be it.

I think it is time to get a little less "strategic" in our bombing and start killing some people.
I know this goes against the "mission objectives" but I think it would go a long way in letting these people know we are not messing around here.

Any idea as to when this took place?
To: BenLurkin
Yeah, it looked rosy the first day or two with the Saddam missiles and Shock and Awe. Our pie-in-the-sky hope was that all of Iraq would lay down their arms and welcome our liberation. It's getting a lot dicier now - Bush was up front that this would happen. But it's hard to watch.

American troops don't carry passports. Perhaps it's part of this bizzare-sounding "they're Zionist mercenaries" spew from Iraq. But it just said it "looked like" a passport.

Iraqi strategy is becoming clear. Their regular army and Republican Guard cannot defeat American troops in a straight fight. Therefore, they are infiltrating fanatic militia(Armed citizens)who allow the American soldiers into a given city then spring up and tie down troops. The news media will start reporting the bad news i.e. dead and wounded, extended fighting, injured babies, POWs etc.The Peaceniks will up the ante(demonstrating 'great opposition.')The hollywood types will come out of the woodwork. The Iraqi government hopes then that the American public will turn against the war. Thus, as in Vietnam we will tire of the war and leave. In short, Iraq thinks if they just hang on America will lose.

Any idea as to when this took place? Somebody on Fox News said they got lost last night. About an hour before the tape was released the Iraqi official announced that there were prisoners. Al-Jazeera claimed the bodies were of U.S. Marines (probably because that sounds more impressive than Army Reserve road crew).

no shoes indicates unspeakable treatment. if verified, that areas iraqi military should be totally obliterated. if this was a followup unit then these prisoners still should be behind our forward elements. i hope we find them before they get away.

>>as in Vietnam we will tire of the war and leave...
That only worked because we didn't march on Hanoi. In this war we are marching on Baghdad.

I just watched footage on CBC Newsworld of the 4 American POWs. It's upsetting to watch and I don't think the families should have to see this. The 3 men and 1 woman look confused, probably because of the number of Iraqi's speaking in Arabic to them at the same time, while the translators are also translating the questions into English. Although you can see that they're nervous and unsure of what's going to happen to them, they also show an inner strength considering their circumstances. After seeing this tape, my only desire is to see heavy bombing tonight in retaliation.

They are counting on delay coupled with the media assault and peaceniks. Americans can no longer stand a protracted war( i.e. like WWII)Our very lack of morale is being used against us. To put it another way we are no longer a people, but simply a population. Bush better get this over quickly or he is toast. God Bless the U.S.A.!
