Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, and, of course, Belly Girl...

It had chemical weapons inside, that's why Blix didn't inspect it. Right. He couldn't have said the Iraqis were cooperating if he found chemical weapons.
To: Aaron0617
man, watch CNN and MSNBC trying hard to water this story down. Notice their banners just say "Chemical factory found".
Fox's banner says "Chemical WEAPONS factory" . If it was just a chemical plant , why was a general in charge, and barrack nearby, and why was it camoflauged?
CNN does have some pretty bitchin' graphics though...

YAAAYY! for Fox News
To: Sacajaweau
That is why the most important sat images are at dawn and dusk because the shadows show much that is hidden by day.

Anyone watching Linda Vester? Sources believe the POWs are still in the area where they were taken. Probably special forces looking around. Can we be hopeful?
To: LiveFreeOrDie2001
We're still waiting on confirmation from Hans Blixt.
To: jimbo123
Has CNN reported about the chemical weapons factory capture?Aaron Brown just dismissed it as a regular chemical plant. Doesn't believe it.

I missed his name, he is a Brit. He is flying on a BlackHawk along with that unit.

Wasn't it Stalin who said "one death is tragic, a million is a statistic".

Do you to call Blix with the news, or should I?
To: Wavyhill
I heard somewhere else where some Ret. Military officer was saying that Saddam was playing page by page (including burning trench full of oil around city)from old soviet war books. This could expalin why we have not seen more surrenders. I was wondering myself how anyone in a unit could surrender unless EVERYONE in that unit wanted to surrender. And how do you find out if everyone wants to surrender, without tiping your hand??????
There could also be much more which is happening which is censured b/c its part of the operation or b/c the media simply do not know everything.
To: tort_feasor
Now they're saying the troops are approaching the Karbala Pass! This is a very, very dangerous spot for us. Why are they talking about it?
To: Trust but Verify
How about the media endlessly broadcasting that Special Forces are within viewing of the nightime lights of Baghdad? Wouldn't that just encourage the Iraqi's to head to the burbs looking for our troops? What good does that reporting do us? Oh that is right, fair and balanced means we also give hints to the "other" side...
To: mikenola
Yeah, Fox has the fairest reporting, but their graphic arts people could use some work, they're a bit obnoxious with all their banners and such, I've always thought it could use some streamlining
To: abnegation
Yes - special forces will make superhuman efforts to find our POWs. It's in their code.

Yeah. Look at the number of people who die in accidents every day. I'm sure it is much higher than are going to die in this war.
To: Right_in_Virginia
You can call him. I hate his accent. misILLES
To: Trust but Verify
I think this is close to where they found the chemical weapons factory.

They talk about WAY too much on television in general about our locations, etc. Unless it's misinformation.
