Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Which is the Marine unit which has been reported to be working their way up from the East, over by the Iranian border? I hope not. They are trapped by the border. They'd have to be heavily supported by armor or air.

He was described as being a quickly rising star within the military and highly trusted right hand of Gen. Franks.Lt. Gen. John Abizaid
Lebanese General Named Second-in-Command of U.S. Army to Invade Iraq A U.S. Army General of Lebanese origin, often called the "mad Arab," has been appointed second in command of the American forces assigned to invade Iraq to overthrow President Saddam Hussein.Born in California to a Lebanese father who worked as a mechanic, Abuzaid immediately served with U.S. Paratroops forces after graduation and eventually commanded an army battalion during the 1983 U.S. invasion of Granada.
He then commanded Air Division 82 that served as the spearhead of rapid intervention forces of the U.S. army and was assigned in the late 1980s to serve in northern Iraq and later in Kosovo and Bosnia in the 1990s.
Chem factory was booby-trapped.

But why are they fighting? Why? Don't they see the handwriting on the wall? Can the Ba'ath party "hitmen" be so pervasive in the ranks that the soldiers fear them? If some lunatic told me to attack the Americans, I'd shoot him, or turn my tank turret around and blow up the HQ. I don't get it.

I don't have cable. Any current happenings appreciated.

I trust there is more than one surprise in store, and not all of them violent. The speed of relief effotr (no thanks to the UN) will also shock and awe.

Ditto what you said; I'd like to preserve the integrity of the thread (and FR!). I know humor helps the stress, but...
