U.S. Soldier Held for Another's Death in Grenade Attack

CAMP NEW JERSEY, Kuwait, March 23 -- One soldier from the 101st Airborne Division was killed and 13 were wounded this morning when two hand grenades were thrown into the 1st Brigade technical operations center at Camp Pennsylvania in central Kuwait, U.S. Army officials said.

A U.S. soldier assigned to the brigade was in custody, the officials said. The soldier who was killed was not idenfitied.

Great...effin great. Another embedded reporter on the road to Bahgdead with the 101st for 36 hours said they are saddened and shocked by what happened in Camp Pennsylvania as they've obviously found out what happened.

Not that they shouldn't be but I hope this does not take away from their concentration on the task at hand or weigh heavy on their minds!

No, his trial will be by general court martial, in accordance with the Uniform Code of Military Justice, which is quite similar in many respects to a civilian court. He will have a defense counsel, and even a jury (if he so desires)...

You know, I didn't like the idea of these reporters being with our military at first but I have changed my mind. They are bonding with our guys and the respect shows. I don't know how many times today I have heard "our unit" and "we".

Just got through watching FOX.

Obvioulsy a black Muslim...whether American born or a West African born immigrant I couldn't say.

He is with an engineering attachment with the 101st.

Of the wounded several looked very serious. One has died sadly. Several others seriously wounded.

The perp was striking out at brigade leaders.

One of the wounded was a woman (so much for no women in combat eh?)

He appeared to be striking out in some misguided interpretation of his religious convictions.

ALL THAT ACCORDING TO A TIME REPORTER ON THE SCENE WHO WAS IN THE TENT WITH THE WOMAN WHO WAS INJURED BY FRAGMENTS>

Having these loons in our combat units is idiocy...PC run amok as usual as costing lives sadly.

truth be told, if the guy was acting weird and had a muslim surname, i wouldn't let him guard the weapons depot!!

hindsight is 20/20, but they ahould have had this guy watched or arrested in camp before he had the opportunity to do this evil.

pc considerations probably prevented them from doing that.
