That information is gonna really piss off the Bush Bashers! They have been telling us what a waste he and his group is for months. Now, they have to deal with a fabulous success!

I think the oxygen mask was there to hold the front half of his head to the back half of his head.

I suspect Saddam is the fourth for bridge with Osama, Adolph and Joseph!

I'd love to believe it but it doesn't explain why the Iraqi VP is appearing on TV talking about American POWs:

The method is plausible. Laser designation can be done outside the visible spectrum, and so would go undetected to anyone not wearing night vision equipment. Video cameras these days are amazing, and post-processing (multi-frame super-resolution reconstruction) can extract images that would look like you took them with a still camera 10 feet away. The spotters would not have had to be very close.

"OTOH, I suppose Saddam may have anticipated an attack at the expiry of the deadline, and pre-recorded the tape or rehearsed the speech"

That would explain him wearing glasses and reading it off a note pad.I haven't seen very many of his "defiant" speeches, but the ones I have seen he never wore glasses and read off a note pad.

The Tomahawk missile is not capable of making the turn to rapid descent at the necessary angle to comply with the story, when approaching the target at low altitude.

The Tomahawk missile might be launched from high altitude and then dives down upon its target, but that exposes it to anti-aircraft fire, and that approach is not permitted by the plan because of the potential for error and thousands of civilian casualties.

As you know, pilots are to return to base with their ordnance if they even slightly believe it to be undeliverable according to plan.

Fajr(Dawn) prayer time 4:40am is the time they claim to be the earliest dawn - when the eastern sky is just getting lighter. Sunrise prayer time 6:03am is the actual time when the sun is first spotted on the horizon.

The expiry of the deadline was 4:15am, the strike at 5:30am. That does make it a bit more plausible that Saddam had simply rehearsed a generic speech to respond to anticipate an onslaught at the expiry of the deadline.

Yes, one of them is gay. I read an article on them in the NY times (weekend insert).

I forget which one is gay. (Prolly the Democrat.)

I'd forgotten her occupation, just remembered her as Underdog's girlfriend. I think it's the hairstyle.

Did you mean to address this to me? I only said that she reminds me of good ol' Polly, especially now that she has bangs. I know everyone was having a hard time with reading the Supreme Courts legalese and she seemed a little too gleeful of her interpretation. That could've merely been a rush of triumph in thinking one had figured out the decision on camera or she could've been a Gore suporter. She seems to have become a better journalist since then.

And I like Polly! Just look at the hair and the facial shape and tell me there's not a resemblance. : )

Thanks for the information. The hypothesis that the tape was a night-before rehearsal of a speech, in anticipation of an attack to occur at the expiration of the 48 hour grace time, is the best explanation of what we know.

Re Kissinger's monotone..... I tend to agree with you. He certainly could have taken voice lessons to learn to fluctuate his voice a bit and to get rid of that heavy inaudible accent. You're right.

Kissinger's accent -- gave him increased cachet with the academics and the pols and the ladies love an exotic accent too.

Kissener just said, Saddam is is alive because the CIA says it is his voice on the tape.

It wasn't Kissener (Kissinger?) It was his double!
