One of the bad aspects about advertising so broadly and so constantly that we are attempting to avoid civilian casualties (and that our societies get so upset about civilian casualties) is that we open ourselves to assymetrical or guerrilla warfare conducted by those who pass as civilian -- I thought this the other day when Diogenesis posted a photo of Iraqi prisoners being taken who had civilian clothes on over their uniforms.

We are inviting these tactics, and that won't be lost on our enemies.

We should take lessons from the Israelis. They deal with this everyday.

I agree re your comments on civilian casualties. My husband and I mentioned it when an embedded reporter was talking about how some Iraqis were allowed to pass by tanks rolling toward Baghdad because they "looked" okay. I wondered if the press wasn't there if the troops wouldn't have at least pulled guns on the people walking by and telling them to stand back.

And I gotta wonder if the security has been briefed to not Profile by race.
