After a little while an Iraqi man joined him. He took off his shoe and started beating the poster of Saddam with his shoe.

Over and above that I think the Hussein family has some feet issues. That's also Uday's favorite target when torturing people. Definite obsessive behavior.

Feet are considered more filthy that your average anti-American protester's hiney I've heard that in much of the the Arab third world (think Afghanistan), they squat to "do their business", then "wipe" with the their heel.
