MONTREAL (AP) -- Fans booed during the playing of the U.S. national anthem before the New York Islanders' 6-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.
The sellout crowd of 21,273 at Bell Centre was asked to "show your support and respect for two great nations" before the singing of the American and Canadian national anthems.

Of course they did. They're French. They're pissed that they won't have the chance to surrender to retreating Iraqis.

Just like the lefties in this country, those morons can't even begin to appreciate the freedom that American power gives them, let alone be thankful for it.
EFF'EM!

It will be rather poor sportsmanship, but I suspect that when the next Canadian team takes to the ice in the US, their crappy national anthem will be on the receiving end of the same. Wouldn't it be ironic, though, if the fans cheered, just to make a point?

I'm beginning to think that AP offices should get a visit from the B-52s. They glory in publishing whatever negative information they can find.

sorry... typoraphical error!
As if they DO anything about their opinions anyway.
Freedom doesn't come for FREE... yes, Canadians don't know it, or they don't wanna know.
I don't think you can be pro Canadian without being anti American. What is there to be PRO about anyway?
yeeeeeeeeeeesh!

If it's any consolation, these same Frechies boo the Canadian anthem as well. Also - the Islanders fans are notorious for booing the Canadian national anthem, so it's also out of spite for that. But it's still wrong, either way. They'll learn, when U.S. troops are showered with flowers, just how flawed their thinking is.

Hockey was invented in Minnesota.

I realize big money is at stake, but wouldn't it have been great to see the Islanders skate off the ice and stun the rude fans?

Ah, the Flannel French stand up to be counted with the rest of Europe. BIIIIG surprise.

"Freedom doesn't come for FREE... yes, Canadians don't know it, or they don't wanna know."
A lot of Canadians DO know it, and are quietly cheering and praying for the Allied troops' success. And a lot of us are also just as fed up with Quebec as you are.
BTW, another consolation: that win by the Islanders officially booted the Habs out of the Stanley Cup playoffs, for the 4th time in the last 5 years. That Patrick Roy trade in '95 was their death-knell.

Invade Quebec, send them back to France

This is embarassing. Canadians get a lot from the U.S. and so do the Quebecers. They've had it too easy for too long.
I'd be interested to know if they also booed Oh Canada.

So the Canadians booed our flag and anthem - and we responded by kicking their butts. LOL

I just heard this on my local news here in Boston. I don't think I've ever been so angry.
Canada, the country that let's any slimebag who claims political asylum into the country, has the nerve to boo our National Anthem.
One more place I refuse to visit,or buy it's products.

Hockey was invented in Minnesota.
You're kidding, right?
There is some doubt as to whether hockey was invented in Windsor, Halifax, Kingston, or Montreal, but there is no serious hockey historian who believes the game was invented outside of Canada.
To: Ancesthntr
The Canadian national anthem routinely gets booed at hockey games in the US. They're just behaving like we normally do.
