FRANCE THREATENS NEW UN VETO
Sky News ^ | March 21, 2003

France would block any UN resolution giving the US and Britain the power of administration in Iraq, French President Jacques Chirac has declared.

He said France would still not support a resolution backing war at this stage and would also oppose a resolution giving Washington and London administrative power in Iraq.

"This idea of a resolution seems to me to be a way of authorising military intervention after the event, and so is not, in my point of view, fitting in the current situation," Mr Chirac said at a news conference in Brussels.

"France would not accept a resolution that authorises military intervention and gives the United States and Britain administrative powers in Iraq."

Doesn't look like they are in much of a position to dictate terms. Ignore 'em.

This sounds like personal pique.

How unstatesmanlike.

They are in trouble and they know it. We will detect their complicity, and cancel their oil contracts. France can veto my ass for all they want.

Chirac still doesn't get it: He, France, and the U.N. have become irrelevant.

I think Bush has proven that Chiraq and the UN are irrelevant.

It's official: Chirac has completely lost his mind.

(In case his other actions didn't clue you in...)

Ya know, sometimes those darn "terms of service" sometimes just limit my right to free speech...

Did note from Blair's speech that the oil money would be put in a "trust administered by the United Nations..."

I do hope that was a blatant lie.

Amazing. This is like getting in a car wreck on the way to McDonalds and telling the ambulance drivers to pick you up a hamburger on the way to the trauma center.

Who asked Chiraq anyway?

They are betting that the German cabinet member is right, who predicted that the US would 'have to remorsefully return to the SC' for financial aid to rebuild Iraq. They believe that the USA will have no alternative to returning to the UN...That the option of simply beginning the reconstruction without its help is an impossibility.

I have faith in GWB's ability to avoid this new trap.

Hearing crap like this reminds me of a line from Aliens- "I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."
