Eyewitness: Saddam Was Carried Out of Bunker
US intelligence believes Saddam Hussein was inside a compound bombarded by American forces. They are examining reports that an eyewitness saw Saddam Hussein, oxygen mask over his face, being carried from a bombed-out bunker on a hospital gurney.
CIA and military analysts were vigorously reviewing clues about the fate of Saddam, his inner circle, and his two powerful sons who were targeted in the attacks.
Senior officials cautioned late Thursday night that there was no conclusion.
Among the evidence being examined were reports suggesting military field commanders might be cut off from Saddam's leadership, that soldiers were considering mass defections, and two videos purporting to show Saddam alive after the attack.
With voice and video frame analysis, US officials looked for signs whether those tapes were contemporaneous or prerecorded as a ruse.
Sources say medical attention was summoned after the attack on the residential complex where Saddam and perhaps his sons were thought to be sleeping early Thursday.
It's not clear yet if they were wounded or killed.

Hm...

It's not clear yet if they were wounded or killed. By the will of Allah, all merciful, Saddam and his spawn are but a crinsom mist in the vicinity of a smoking crater.

If Saddam's speech was valid, it would have included the attack itself and a "taunt". He ignores it. I'd say pre-recorded. IMHO

I hope US intel takes this eyewitness account with a grain of salt.
I think it would be hard to say if a man on a gurney with an oxygen mask over his face was Saddam. After all, every last one of his top guys has a moustache and black hair.
That's not to say we don't have other evidence that Saddam is dead or wounded, but I just think it would be difficult to make a positive ID on someone with an oxygen mask over his face.

I've heard that report also. The are so many rumors flying around it's hard to know what's going on. Uday was said to have been badly injured/killed in that attack. It couldn't happen to two nicer people.

All of the "is he dead or not" speculation is focused on Saddam - I'd like to know if either of his sons have been seen...I think that would be a crushing blow to Saddam to have his favorite son dead.

believe we've read about this somewhere--a fatal illness...

How does "Saddam" look in the second video? What is he wearing, and what is he saying?

This confirms a FNC report last night that emergency vehicles and personnel were seen at the site of the bunker after the attack.

It would seem our human intel efforts since the adults are back in charge are quite outstanding. Of course the fact that the president was not trying to run off in the nite to get a hummer from ex-VP's daughters, or little nympho interns, and he was available and coherent to make a timely decision plays a vital role too.
The quality of leaders makes all the difference between blowing up empty tents, asprin factories, and home folk in Waco, versus blowing up our enemies.

I think that would be a crushing blow to Saddam to have his favorite son dead.there you go again, imposing your western cultural values. "favorite son" in this use is the one most likely to assassinate him in a coup.

To: LPStar
Whether or not he is dead, there will be a desire for him to be seen by his soldiers. Now, he MUST show himself for his fighting troops otherwise they will AGAIN surrender in masse.

I agree...hastily recorded, but probably PRE-recorded. He wouldn't have missed the chance to say "nyah, nyah! Ya missed me!" if in fact he'd narrowly avoided being hit.

This war is over...it's a clean-up operation now (I am NOT, however, minimizing the continued danger to our boys (and girls), the Brits or the Aussies.
And, BTW, have the french surrendered yet?
