MONTREAL (AP) Fans booed during the playing of the U.S. national anthem before the New York Islanders' 6-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.
The sellout crowd of 21,273 at Bell Centre was asked to ''show your support and respect for two great nations'' before the singing of the American and Canadian national anthems.

Remember, this is Montreal, not Canada. A lot of French-descended people there aren't there? I've heard Canada has some non-Socialists mostly in only certain provinces but the rest you can forget.

I suspect the Canadiens just surrendered. Yes, but only the French part. The Western part of Canada wants to be part of the USA. I don't blame them. Who'd want to be part of the stinking French rationalization verbiage?

Quebec will make their break and then truly become part of France. They should ---then it would be one country that could never have a civil war.

Reply to post #20: Oh, you are so right. The marxist revolutionaries have completely taken over the school systems of American. Even Dr. Laura advises her listeners that have kid's in public school, to get them out now, before they are destroyed.

How longs it been since the Cup graced a canadien city?
The Cup comes to many Canadian cities every summer. Every player on the cup-winning team bring the cup home for a couple days, and since the vast majority of NHLers are Canadian, the cup goes home to Canada every year.
10 years of being Losers at your national sport...will make you bitter and vile. Sure, they won gold, woopdedoo, but it ain't Lord Stanley's Cup.
Ask English football fans if they'd rather have one of their club teams win the UEFA cup, or if they'd rather see England win the World Cup, where the best nationals are playing for each team. I don't think you'll hear anyone say the former. The same is true for Canada and the Olympics (or Canada Cup, Summit Series, where all the best are there).
I don't agree with a lot of the politics that my former countrymen espouse in Canada, and having since moved to Texas, I find myself a lot ideologically closer to the people of my new home. But my allegiance to hockey will always rest in Canada.

Remember, this is Montreal, not Canada. What's the difference?

Yeah, it's Quebec, might as well be FranceExactly.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Canadiens surrendered to the Islanders.

having been dating a Canadian for the past 6 months, I realize that the ideological differences between the two countries are grander than the average observer might think. There is no excuse for either one to 'boo' the other regardless of circumstances. Surely we are all more adult than that and poor sportsmanship really has no place between two ostensibly united countries. (albeit Canada seems quite vitriolic re:Iraq) We have football, baseball, and basketball - lets let poor Canada have their hockey eh?

As a fellow FReeper (Snuffington) once remarked:
"No offense to [the Canadians], but feeling morally superior, and actually being morally superior are not the same thing. I fear the Canadians are falling for the notion that spending other people's money and lacking the power to piss anyone off is writing them a special place in world history."

Canada is a nation under seige by Socialists.
But nothing can be further from the truth than Canucks oppose this war.
Other than the typical artist, teacher and welfare recipient objections known just as well in the U.S., the rank and file Canuck does want America to kick the terrorists off the planet.
Government-controlled media is a large part of the problem.
Rest assured that every time a politician puts his foot in his mouth, or Quebecers reveal their allegiance to France, the better in the long term.
Just as France's Chirac is already feeling the heat, Chretien and the Liberals are becoming reviled by Canadians with each outrageous comment and incident.
Bush's America is altering the political landscape across the globe, with a potentially more significant impact than even Reagan.
Fear of enemies unknown and sudden ambush are being replaced with trust, hope and prospects for lasting peace. Bush is changing the world. And it is good.
To: Enduring Freedom
You are correct. Rank and file Canadian sentiment is with America and is growing steadily. Cretien has made a huge mistake and the liberals are backpeddaling and implementing damage control. The Froggies are anti english and that includes America as well as the rest of Canada. As Bush achieves the objectives with this masterful and well planned expeditionary force, anti-war hysteria will subside and the dissenters will be forced to shut up. America must show patience and be broad shouldered and let the uninformed and opinionated masses catch up, at home and abroad. As Canadian Alliance leader Stephen Harper said, " we are with America and support the war to disarm Saddam Hussien" and that includes me.
