I wouldn't be so overconfident. We have encountered opposition in S. Iraq, Basrah is encircled but we are not yet completely inside. We haven't seen the level of mass surrenders that some predicted. Still have resistance in the north. Note that we haven't heard that much from embedded reporters in awhile. And the real strength is in Baghdad.
Whose to say that Saddam's strategy was to operate the Republican Guard in cells, since they knew the US would likely soon take out their C & C and monitor communications. A "hold your fire until you see the whites of their eyes" strategy is certainly possible, as is a final "Spectacular Suicide" once US forces are drawn in and about to overrun the city. If Saddam or his henchmen are going down with certain death, a vindictive strike on civilians that Al Jazzera could try and blame on the US is tempting bitter revenge.
