CBS: 'Senior Officials' Think Saddam May Not Have Survived Thu Mar 20 2003 10:33:00 ET
"I am being told by several senior officials not to take that taped speech Saddam gave last night as proof that he survived the attack," CBS NEWS reporter David Martin said on air.
"They say the evidence that put him in the bunker last night was very reliable, and they are confident that the cruise missiles and bunker-busting bombs that were fired at that bunker last night hit the target. So now, intelligence experts are studying the tape to determine if it is really Saddam, or a body double which he is known to use from time to time. And they are running a computerized voice analysis, comparing that speech with known recordings of Saddam's voice. But that's a process that takes awhile. So we may not have a quick answer."
CBS adds that there is "is considerable belief in this government that they may, in fact, have gotten Saddam."

I heard the same thing and that Saddams two sons may have been in the building as well...That's highly unlikely ... Saddam and a few of his top co-horts perhaps but his sons would not be there ... for obvious reasons.

Look at the skin on his neck/chin. On the guy last night it was loose and wrinkled.
Saddam doesn't look that way in the other videos of him.

Though I hope it's true we got him, I think you will see alot of this going forward. They are trying to smoke these guys out by making them prove they are still in less than 1,000 pieces at the bottom of a smoking hole.
The whole Tariq Aziz thing yesterday was orchestrated to make him pop his head out of the ground, with the assumption he would be near the leadership.
This is one big, deadly, game of "Whack A Mole".

I thought it was strange that "Saddam" spoke via video tape - within two hours of the attack - and not live. Isn't that suspicious in itself?

If he is dead, then the resistance will crumble quickly.

He has a tight collar on other videos as well. But no hanging skin.

"I agree. If he had died in that first attack, the entire regime structure would be imploding right now."
Not true. His sons and what survivors of the dirty dozen know they are in a fight to the death. They can not be taken alive because they can't even pronounce, much less find Gitmo on the map.

Actually Saddam has been dead since 1993 and the regime has been fronting doubles ever since.

If he had been killed...there would have been SURRENDER by now...he is still alive.

Well...then they can add "the extension of the war by two days" to their list of crimes, if they survive this final and futile last act of desperation.

If true, and the Iraqi military capitulates, it could go down in history as "The 13-Minute War."

I hope it's true but I doubt it because it's so hard to get one man with a couple dozen missiles. Not if at least one of them comes in the bedroom window...

Not necessarily.
he's used doubles for so long that it'll take awhile for the machine to grind to a halt in th eevent of his death.
Once you're using doubles like that, it's hard for one to stop the juggernaut it becomes.
