Key Bridge Wash DC Blocked
Physical observation on site in Arlington highrise in Rosslyn ^ | March 20 2003 | self

Arlington Police and fire have blocked off Lynn Street and other streets in vicinity of Key Bridge. Looks like hundreds of police on the scene. So far no word on what precipitated the event, but this hasn't happened before.

Nice easy walk over the bridge to all the restaurants in Georgetown, too.

Did you see him yelling at that woman who was babbling about hand-to-hand combat?

I sure did. He was livid.

absolutely. Wearing my blue and white striped shirt under the red sweater today too. I don't care if people think I'm a cheezeball.

Not to try to jack the thread, but I have a question. My best friend is a member of the 101st Airborne. I looked online and saw where you could buy the hats with this on them, like this one.

Is it in poor taste for me to wear this if I haven't served in the military, but just want to support my friend? I don't want real veterans to get pissed off if they ask me if I served and I say no.

Not sure about the propriety of wearing a hat with a particular unit on it. I'm sure some freepers know the answer to that!

It's my understanding that a court ruling after the GOP convention in 2000 restricts Philly police from automatically arresting protesters who block streets

To be honest I'm not real sure about what the deal with the Court is

The Police Chief only mention that when they were arrested during the GOP Convention the protesters were soon released by the courts and the protesters turned around and sued the city, which costed the city a lot of money and that was why he would not be making any arrests

They laid down in the street and blocked traffic for about 45 minutes to an hour

I don't see how anyone would take offense at your wearing a commercially made hat such as the one you posted. As a vet and a Screaming Eagle, I would welcome it. It is only when folks start to misrepresent themselves and their service that the vets I know start to get a bit upset.

I say go for it.

Henry David Thoreau spent time in jail. As far as I'm concerned, that's a key component of TRUE civil disobedience. If today's protestors can't handle being arrested, they can take their diapered bottoms and go home.

Bill Clinton is a great Democrat

I hope that is in no way a compliment... I don't know that I've ever seen the combination of "great" and "Democrat" here on FreeRepublic. It shook me up and I had to make sure I was really here.

"So, Grampa, what did you do during GWII?"
"Well, son, lemme tell you about the time we were surrounded by the enemy after we captured a key bridge. It was overwhelming. We had no place to hide. It was either jump or be captured."
"Wow, gramps. It must have been awful."
"You'll never know, son. It pains me to even think about it. There we were. All hunkered down, huddled together expecting the worse. And then it happened."
"What, gramps? Tell me, tell me."
"The bahstids sprayed us with deadly chemicals. Lemme show you my back. See that clean spot under my left shoulder blade?"
"Oooh, that looks horrible, gramps. It looks like . . ."
"Yup! They hit us with the water cannons. It peeled off two inches of crud. But I was lucky. My buddy got the full blast. The last time I saw him he was laying in the road completely naked . . . beyond recognition . . . shivering like an earth worm under a water faucet. The horror!"
"How'd they treat you after they rounded you up?"
"Oh, not too bad. They sent us all to the city dump for re-hab until the war was over."

Peace protests are a good thing.

It is easier to shoot all those traitors when they are all in one place.

Don't we have crowd control water hoses anymore?

A whiff of grapeshot used to have great effect as well.

I believe these anti-war protesters are actually communist insurgents.

They are fighting a guerilla war againts the people of the United States and its economy. They are not using AK-47's but the effect on the daily lives of US citizens is disasterous. Henry Kissinger's famous definition of a guerilla: A guerilla seeks to control, not territory, but population.

Can't you see that is what is happening, when US citizens are denied their Constitutinal right to travel free and pursue their business interests by these people?

And if we do have a growing communist insurgency in this country and we do not recognized so that it can be quashed, we are indeed in deep trouble. So far, all of the economic harm(by blocking intersections and stopping commerce) done to the US since the war started has not been done by Al Queda terrorists, but by our own home bred communists.

They are indeed "terrorists", even if their main weapon isn't [violent] terror.
We need a new name for them, like 'subverters' or something.

It is well documented that over 85% of the money for these anti-American, treasonous acts is supplied initially by off-shore sources to their surrogates operating here in the U.S.

We are a nation at war. Some of the battles are going to occur here, on Amewrican soil. Theseseditions bastards should be rounded up, processed through booking and shipped to an internment camp in the Arizona desert! They are tying up the very 'troops', the police, etc., who are enlisted to protect and defend US! When will the simpering leftists alphabet networks tell it like it really IS? These 'protests' aid and abet an enemy that intends our destruction, tying up our troops at home.
