AJC Supports U.S.-led Action Against Iraqi Tyranny

NEW YORK -- In a letter to President Bush delivered to the White House tonight, the American Jewish Committee expressed full support for the U.S. military action "to vanquish tyranny and terror in Iraq."

"We stand with our nation, on whose leadership the future of a world at peace depends," wrote American Jewish Committee President Harold Tanner and Executive Director David A. Harris.

The full text of the AJC letter to President Bush follows:

"As American forces and those of our allies go into battle to vanquish tyranny and terror in Iraq, please know that we and our American Jewish Committee colleagues stand in solidarity with the brave men and women at the front line of freedom. As ever, we stand with our nation, on whose leadership the future of a world at peace depends.

"By seizing the opportunity to liberate an oppressed people and rid the world of a despot supportive of terror and committed to building his regime’s stockpile of weapons of mass destruction, you have charted a courageous course.

"We know that there will be difficult days ahead, while our forces and those of our allies press forward on their vital mission. In their advance toward victory – and the peace for which all men and women of good will yearn – please know that they will be in our hearts and in our prayers."
