Thursday, SF Civic Center Support the President!

Posted on 03/20/2003 12:07:53 AM PST by Mediaqueen

Walk, drive, take BART to take a stand in support of the President of the U.S., our troops and our actions in Iraq.

When: Thursday, 3/20, 12 Noon (try to arrive by 11:45)

Where: San Francisco's Civic Center Plaza by City Hall, Van Ness (look for other "Common Sense Activists" at BACK of anti-war protest)

I've confirmed on the Intl' ANSWER site that the "blame America, hate Bush" crowd will be gathering at this location at noon Thursday, inevitably followed by a horde of media cameras. We won't be able to match them in numbers, but the collective IQs, big signs and sharp wits in our group can outshine tens of thousands of sheeple! Have your signs, flags and soundbites ready ....

Question: In NYC if you get arrested protesting, you spend the night in jail.

In SF if you get arrested, you get cited, and then you are back on the street protesting somemore.

Which makes sense?

I just heard on TV that the SF protesters have succeeded in blockading entrances to the Bay Bridge. They are sitting on the cars and taunting the drivers. The police are being so restrained as to be ineffective.

I was also listening to Savage (with my other ear) and he pointed out that if they are not 'discouraged' today/tonight they will no doubt escalate their action.

Certainly just cite-and-release is a huge mistake. Even if they have to be held at a fenced in pen somewhere, they should be held. And the sponsors should be held legally liable for loss of business and damage of property.

They say they are anti-war. Don't they see that what they are doing is the equivalent of waging war? (answer: yes, of course they do, that's the point)

I am worried about some of our Freepers who (as at the beginning of this thread) were going out to Civil Center. I'm sure that their reports will be exciting, but I would prefer that they not be filed from a hospital!

Please stay safe. I bet you are scared. Stay inside. And... never forget!

Yes, yes and yes on everything you all said! I've written a piece about this for tomorrow on Chronwatch. I'll post it on the FReep and ping ya. Where's the National Guard when you need them?

It's 10:00 pm PST and we're back from the accountant (and dinner).

There are STILL LOTS of helicopters around our neighborhood. We don't know what's going on at all.

What did Savage say?

Does anyone think the protestors might be too tired to go out at 7:00 am tomorrow? Because I'm going to have to get to work in the morning.

If anyone has a report of what is going on it will be appreciated. We hear sirens going and lots of helicopters.

After Melanie Morgan announced that we should all show up today, I decided to go. I found about 10 people there. When I left at 1:00, there had not been any injuries, just a lot of yelling.
It was a little disconcerting, not having any police there. Most of the protesters stayed a few feet away, but there were several attempts to block out our sign. Also, it was easier to infiltrate the group.
One woman insisted that I send my children into the military. I told her that I would when they were old enough. Do they think that will make us back off?
Another chap got right in my face when we were chanting "USA". He said this wasn't a football game. They get so angry. Obviously, they are not used to being challenged.
There was a large police presence in the square. They were lining up as I left. Aaah, there's no more heartwarming sight than watching a line of police standing should to shoulder, batton in hand.

Good post re: not countering the current wave of street terrorists ramaging thru SF. I agree they are best left alone for now. Let people see who & what these false faces are really--dictatorial, vicious thugs with a centralized agenda unrelated to anyone's peace.
Love seeing stunned looks on addled, fearful commuters who just didn't get it untill now.
"Riot on!", I say.
What's up 3/29?

Get there early as we are giving away 500 "Liberate Iraq Support Our Troops" signs (4'x2') to the first 500 people that show up on our side!
