Protesters block Wilshire Boulevard in the Westwood section of Los Angeles on Wednesday, March 19, 2003, as part of an anti-war demonstration. Demonstrators shut down two blocks of the busy street for about two hours. At one point, dozens lay down in the middle of the street. (AP Photo/Jayme Younger)

Yeah, I got a cell-phone call from a buddy of mine about this one. He was extremely angry because this action had stopped freeway traffic for miles around, and he was held up from an important meeting in the Valley because of it. And this guy is an ANTIWAR DEMOCRAT -- imagine how people less sympathetic to the cause feel about these public temper tantrums...

peaceful civil disobedience protest

Sounds the same as when a four year old throws himself on the floor, holds his breath, and turns blue.

Anybody have a pillow handy?

Fire Mission

Written by: Tom Griffin, 7/15 Vietnam

These are the actual commands during an artillery Fire Mission:

"BATTERY ADJUST" (guns involved in the fire mission)

"AZIMUTH 4800" (direction of fire the guns will be laid at)

"SHELL H.E." (high explosive shell)

"CHARGE 7" (powder charge necessary to reach target)

(Note: In this case the guns are 8-inch Howitzers since 175mm charges are classified as Zone 1, 2, or 3)

"FUSE QUICK" (point detonating)

"NUMBER TWO ONE ROUND, BATTERY ONE ROUND IN EFFECT" (method of fire. . . gun number two will begin to fire and make corrections until the desired result on the target is observed. At that time all the guns in the battery would fire on the target using Gun Number Two's corrected data)

"DEFLECTION 3210" (direction placed on the gunner’s Panoramic Telescope / moving the barrel, or tube of the gun, left or right in the desired direction toward the target)

"QUADRANT 648" (elevation placed on the Assistant Gunner's Range Quadrant / the tube is then raised or lowered until the desired elevation is reached)

"NUMBER TWO - FIRE!"

Been our biggest fear that Greece would not help if Sadaam attacked Turkey from the rear. So glad that at least the frisco residents can respond to code orange.

At least there aren't any AMERICANS protesting today. I'm one of (I guess) the few conservatives who is opposed to this war, however now is no time for a protest!

Did you hear about the fellow who fell to his death while putting up some kind of anti-war banner on the Golden Gate Bridge?

Duke, I've also had grave reservations about the war. I'm sure there are others here who feel the same way. But you're right -- now is not the time.

Yup, that's been all over the local news today, as well as on FR. I suppose that poor fool thought he could duplicate that desecration of the Sydney Opera House...

Don't think that this a "great time" to protest the war either, regardless of your political theories. Fix your bayonet buddy.
