'To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the Presdient, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.'

President Theodore Roosevelt

You are correct. The music is the same. Three things can change. The perception the listener has of the performer or the performer him/herself or the listener.

Natalie's faux paux which was of course her "right" falls into the first camp. Many of us saw this coming when she bashed Toby Keith last year. Now she has to live with the consequences of her freedom.

An example of the last circumstance would be me. In the early 70s when I was young and naive and to the left, I liked Jefferson Airplane and CSN to name but a few lefty groups....Now, some 30 years later I revile that music.

But as you said the music hasn't changed. I have...long ago actually.

I hope for Natalie's sake she does too.

I'm talking about a small group of people, mainly on FR, who post lists of radio stations across the country so that every person can fill out form letter or make phone calls repeating talking points, telling stations hundreds or thousands of miles outside their area that they will boycott the station if they play Dixie Chicks. Its disingenuos, a farce and a fraud.

No. It's a text book boycott. It's pretty simple. Entertainers pull a bait and switch when they use the popularity given to them for their abilities to play music, act, etc., to launch into political swipes. Why wouldn't people vocally withdraw their support when they find that an artist is using it not to deliver music, but to deliver ill-informed political attacks?

Who cares.

You do. You seem very upset that people are voicing their opposition to the likes of the Dixie Chicks.

No one will six months from now. The DC will still be millionaires.

So drop the issue. Stop worrying about poor DJs, Radio Execs and fat, wealthy singers.

That's it bend over and give up any self respect you've got for a few free tickets to see some skank jump around on stage.

Will you also forgive the French when your wife/girlfriend wears that maid outfit?

Because I now revile all that Hippiedom Blame America stuff that I was a part of back then.

It was youthful foolishness.

David Crosby (a tragedy worthy of his own thread(s)), Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Grace Slick, Marty Balin, Kantner, Jorma, Cassady etc all seem to still be more or less mired in that mindset.

I loathe all that old protest music....I could go on and on. Today, I simply avoid putting money in the hands of those I have serious political differences with.

I find it hard to separate the artist from their work now...whether music, film, written word, or visual art.

It's just me...and it makes it rather difficult to pick and choose and I am hardly consistent but I try.

Could you really stand to hear Volunteers again or Ohio?

At least Neil Young knew to move on more or less.

What is the name of your album, and I will napster it and listen.

Well, first off, did your mama drop you on the head too many times for you to assume I'm selling an album? And how dare you refuse to support my career by using Napster! You are a total dumbass. I'm selling angel pins, a$$#ole. How many can I sign you up for?

I have most assuredly not forgotten. I have always been a Skynyrd fan from day one ...1973...11th grade....and even more so lately....Simple Man still makes me tear up.

I'm sorry my wife's profile page usurped mine. I had a lenghty one and I've been too lazy to rebuild it but it would have given ya a better picture of where I stand on things...I need to get motivated. We both use Comcast at home and I noticed one day that her's had wiped mine out...no explaination....back during one of the FR workover periods last year.

Neil sort of redeemed himself with Powderfinger.

Thankfully, I'm still able to listen to and enjoy that music. I was never influenced by protesting and that sort of stuff. It didn't bother me then, and still doesn't.

Your original post:

All the Chicks have to do is:
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
1) Make a Sincere Apology to President Bush and to the American People.

2) Cancel or Delay the rest of their 2003 World Concert Tour, as they will get severe Booing and Heckling by any former fans who attend the concerts just because they cannot give away the overpriced tickets.

3) GIVE a FREE TOUR of all our Military Outposts, putting on a:
................. "God Bless America and President Bush" Tour .....
....for our Service Men and Women all over the world. Perhaps after they have done 10 months of this they can request an invite to give a Free Concert for President Bush at the Ranch in Crawford TEXAS, as I believe President Bush would be the first to offer his forgiveness, and the good people of Texas would follow his lead.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

This will TOTALLY recover their former status as #1 entertainers and they will rise to even higher heights, probably becoming regulars at the Super Bowl, etc. They will gain MUCH GREATER WEALTH AND FAME by executing this simple plan.

I admit I skipped over parts 1 & 2 of your post so I will address them here.

1) The "Sincere Apology" to President Bush, is to late. The contestant for American Intern already blew it twice. How many more apologies do you want to hear from her?

2)Most of the tickets are already sold. So wether they hold the concerts or not the SnickerChicks will still get the money. And that is what this is all about.

So we come to No.#3, where it is apparently some people hope that the SlutsChics will hand out free tickets or put on a show for the troops, just so they can fill good about themselves again.
I have no respect for people that can be bought off with a few shiny trinkets. But if people want to go back to making this ho rich, well more power to them.

Now if your post was sarcasm, then I offer an apology.

My message, posted to her guestbook:

I disagree with is the sentiment that it would be better if we all sat around a campfire, sang "Kumbaya" (or whatever the hell that nitwit song is), and tried to "feeeeel" for the others, we'd be so much happier and safer... Consider the following statement you made:

"While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost."

Nothing, perhaps, except letting some fanatical Muslim extremist into the country, with a vial of Anthrax... Especially when said vial is glass with a rubber or cork stopper.... I.e., UNDETECTABLE by current security devices... the clown gets on a plane, goes to a western nation, drops that (or some other biological agent) into the water supply, and nobody will know until people start dying....

Another foolish statement,

"I feel the president is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world."

Once again, the USA takes the lead to defend the world- from such possible terrorist attacks. If we are ignoring the "opinions of many in the U.S.," you're absolutely correct- those that are too weak or stupid to defend themselves, survive at the good graces of their betters. If that means alienating these fools- hurting their tender feelings, so that their survival is assured, than FINE.

Being apart from stupid people is not exactly something I worry about...

And if you want to blatantly display your stupidity and lack of appreciation for YOUR betters... Than you will never receive any money from me, for your product... Yes, you has the right to voice your mind... But you don't have the right to not suffer the consequences of such statements.

And I would imagine your financial suffering, due to your lack of vision... Has ONLY just begun.

I give up. Sarcasm would be wasted.

But, oh well, what the hell.

Point #1 was a push as I really don't want to hear anything from the Blitzie Chicks. On that we agree. But, for points #2 and #3 to work, they would need to do #1: APOLOGIZE.

#2: Clearly states: CANCEL or DELAY for 1 Year their 2003Tour. I.E. Give The Money BACK and let people decide on their Own to purchase or Not to Purchase the Tickets when the 2003 tour happens in 2004. What part of that says that they would keep the money????? Then there is the issue of people being forced to eat their tickets and stay away. I would rather give the tickets to Gang Bangers and Roudies to disrupt their concerts than attend myself.

#3: Give 10 months of FREE CONCERTS to the Military Men and Women at the USA or bases as selected by Mr. & Mrs. Bush's Daughters, being sure to state the error of their ways and that they are doing this to make up for their sins.

Now, If our President is a Born Again Christian, I am confident that he would forgive them.

If he is willing to forgive them, then certainly I suspect America will do no less.

Besides, what the Chicks Said pales in comparison to what our pathetic Democrat Senators say every day in Washington. How phoney is Daschle to go to a Breakfast at the White House only to come out and Condemn President Bush??

If you still think my position on the Chix is too soft, you clearly do not understand it.

Peace! ([: ^ )
