BAGHDAD -- It was a day everyone knew would come, yet somehow it fell with the subtlety of a sledgehammer.
With President Bush's ultimatum to Saddam Hussein to leave Iraq within 48 hours, the uneasy normality that had prevailed in this capital disappeared Tuesday, as if swept away by the fierce windstorm that howled through the city.
Ashen-faced and on the edge of frantic, the men and women of Baghdad looked to the days ahead with dread, wondering how -- and if -- they will come out of a war.

Propaganda for Saddam.
I wonder how much he pays the Lost Angeles Times for this.

Per FR's legal settlement, LA Times articles must be excerpted.

Can you post from LA Times in entirety?
To: Stavka2
This article makes it seem the Iraqui people don't want liberation. This may be more a prevalent feeling in Baghdad rather than the rest of the country. I think it will take a while to sink in that the US is not necessarily after their precious oil. Once they see a more stable leadership and oil profits being turned around to help their economy, they will cheer up. However, there will always be the Islamist radicals that will try and sabotage this or continue to stir up hate and misinformation.

"39-year-old Ahmad Hassan, who was taking a break from emptying the tire store he manages,
in an attempt to prevent looting during the war."
Have a lot of faith in your fellow Iraquis, don't you ?

Public confessions of fealty in a police state run by a mass murderer and his two sadist sons are, to put it mildly, suspect.

"We were just on the edge of Mansour, when the JDAMS began to take hold...."

Interviews like his suggested that Bush made little headway with the people here when the U.S. president spoke about his hopes for Iraq. Is this guy covering the same city that the British jouranlists are? Some of the articles that Ivan has posted are in stark contrast to this.

It is not honest. You killed 30 million Indians to get what they had. Now you want to kill 300 million Arabic people to get our petroleum. Seems like the fellow was educated in an American public school.

No you can't post from The LA times in it's entirety. I solved the problem by not posting anything at all from them, or ever clicking on their website.
