Mediabase 24/7, an airplay monitoring firm, confirms that the remarks made by Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks have had a negative impact on radio airplay. Overall, the Dixie Chicks' airplay in the top 140 U.S. markets declined 20 percent over the seven day period after her remarks, as compared to the seven day period prior to her remarks. The largest decline in airplay came from the Country Radio format where they were off 29 percent. Other radio formats were not as dramatically affected. Top 40 declined 11 percent, Hot Adult Contemporary declined seven percent, and Mainstream Adult Contemporary declined seven percent.

Only 29%? - WE Can and MUST do better than this! Get these chicks off the UNITED STATES airwaves. Yes, in another column today they blame the decline in airplay as part of a RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY! Two press releases in one day by their management! They are running scared, and now it's time to start poking them in the ass with a pitchfork while they run. They MUST be held accountable for thier actions.

They've done neither, but they're back on the air now.

while i have voted in some anti-chicks polls found online, I really feel that she (nat) put her co-members in a tight spot. They should have come out immediately to say that one doesn't speak for all. Unfortunately, "they" didn't and relied on a less than sincere apology to thwart backlash. 3 CDs and a couple of statues is more than the average joe gets from opening his mouth. Hope they live well and prosper, but people don't buy their CDs based on their political opinions. Open mouth and sing, not insert foot. JMO

The Dixie Chicks' single is #1 on the current Country Chart with 6,090 total plays. It will be interesting to see how far they fall on next week's chart as a result of this.
