Hoping to avoid another decade of haggling and litigation over the Sierra Nevada, state officials are urging the Bush administration to work with them on reducing fire dangers instead of weakening a 2-year-old plan aimed at restoring Sierra forests.

Regional Forester Jack Blackwell is expected today to announce revisions to the Sierra Nevada Framework that he says will make it easier for the U.S. Forest Service to thin brush and trees that have fueled unnaturally large fires in the Sierra.

It's absolute insanity that we're turning entire economies and demographic portions of our country over a f***ing owl, that's NOT EVEN ENDANGERED. Yet we continue this unbelievable madness.

Our government is sick and our society is sick. Of the animals, for the animals and by the animals.

"If the Forest Service proceeds on its present course ... it's a recipe for a listing of the owl, resulting in renewed conflict, litigation, and gridlock," said state Resources Secretary Mary Nichols.

I saw this as a thinly vailed threat. Talk about blackmail.

stupid tree huggers.

Forest fires are NATURAL, and GOOD FOR THE FOREST. many western trees need fires to trigger germination of seeds.

"But state officials fear that Blackwell's plan will increase logging to a level that the California spotted owl will be added to Endangered Species Act, a listing that could lead to court-ordered restrictions on both public and private forests."

No mention that it was just taken off the list and should have never been on there in the first place!!!!!! GawdAMMIT!!!

Bring your new chainsaw to the Eureka, California area. Tubebender will show where to "use it" to clean up the environment.

People all over the world watch as we let these forests burn every fall. They don't realize that lawyers are the real threats to our enviornment, tho they hide behand owls etc.
