In a statement, Ridge said reporting from a number of sources indicated that al Qaeda operatives "probably would attempt to launch terrorist attacks against U.S. interests claiming they were defending Muslims or the 'Iraqi people' rather than Saddam Hussein's regime."

Ridge and Attorney General John Ashcroft will hold a news conference on the heightened terror alert Tuesday morning.

I sure hope so, after all, he's the Director of HOMELAND Security, and the President wouldn't have put him there if he didn't trust him to do his job. The President has lots of other things on his plate right now; every decision should not have to go through him for approval.

"defending Muslims" was mainly what Jim Lange said. He talked about the terrorists using this as an opportunity to try to portray this as a war of the WEST against MUSLIMS. But ... I totally believe this is directed thru Saddam somehow.
