Did anyone else hear the News Report on The Marine Sgt. on FOX news? He says INS deemed him to be of inadequate character to be a US citizen!
Marine was born in Vietnam and had some minor trouble when he was a young man, obviously the trouble was not serious enough to keep him out of the USMC but serious enough he can't be a citizen? Is there nothing we can do to help him?

"Why don't we find out why he is not thought about in a high esteem first."
Look what is your problem? He says he loves the Marines... He is in the sand dressed and ready to go to war.
Yes I would make him a citizen. He is a Sgt. in an honorable status.

I saw the report. If he wins a Bronze Star, he's a shoe in.

He is from Silverspring MD

Okay... them make him a citizen.

My Dad was drafted 3 months after he arrived in the US in 1955, so this is not some new rule. In fact both he and my uncle (mother's side) were proud and honored to be asked to serve, it allowed them to become citizens in a much shorter period of time. What right do you have to impugn the motives of someone who obviously loves this country enough to defend it.

his Senator is from Maryland, Sarbanes >> he said had he had contacted Sarbanes office and received no help

He has not renounced his citizenship, or anything like that.
What came out in the interview was that he was born in Vietnam and came to the US when he was six months old. I would have been hard pressed to identify where he was from based on listening to him, as he has absolutely no accent. According to him, he got into trouble when he was a teenager. He did not elaborate on what kind of trouble he go into. Since that time, he has grown into an adult. He has served six years in the Marine Corp (I can't remember the rank but it was not at the bottom; he has earned some promotions). After his initial six years, he has served another six years in the Reserves, and now he is stationed on the Iraqi border in Kuwait. The interview was in one of the Marine's quarter tents in Kuwait -- they hold about 40 guys and there were other Marines seen inside the then at the time.
He stated that the INS, because of his previous trouble as a teenager has told him he does not have the moral character to be a citizen. Meanwhile, the Marine Corps obviously believes that he has the moral character to be an officer. He was just hoping that someone would see the interview and take up the cause so that he could become a US citizen. Regardless of whether or not that happens, he assured Fox News that he was there to do a job as a Marine and to protect the USA.

I heard the interview. Here is a guy putting his life on the line for the dumb asses in the INS and for us while O.J. Simpleton is enjoying a game of golf and snuffing cocaine with some ditzy broad.
Lets hope someone brings the plight of this brave Marine to the attention of George W.

I seen the same interview. Although my first response is to condemn the INS and feel sorry for the Marine. My better judgement said if this marine were to be one that was just linked to a terrorist action, I would be screaming at the top of my lungs saying what in ther H*** is this alien doing in the U.S.Marines,
Can we have it both ways?
What is the solution for this (what seems to be) a possible future U.S. Citizen left out in the cold.?

I'm just lucky that inadequate character during the teen years isn't cause for forfeiting citizenship. If it is I would have been kicked out of the country years ago.

This is what can happen when non-citizens are allowed to server in the military which I've never really understood. I hope the INS's position can be reversed.

I'm with you! I wish it would just make O'rielly's ridiculous item of the day.

I saw that interview and I think we should all write our Congresscritters and tell them to give him citizenship. If he's good enough to fight for our country then I believe he's due our thanks with citizenship being given to him.

Did he join to defend this nation, or did he join to gain citizenship? Knowing he had a major problem in his past did he join the Marines for his own personnel gain?
I learned more about life as a REMF then I did in the Infantry!

I am a proud active duty Marine. I have and currently serve with Marines that are not US citzens. I have served with Marines that are from Ireland, Mexico, and Canada to name a few. If these Marines want citzenship and have served honorably they should be granted citzenship.

The INS seems to be pretty good at handling normal people, who are generally law-abiding, like this guy, Elian Gonzales, and the Canadian who drove 50 feet across the border to get some gas.
The trouble they had is dealing with the bad guys. They're not too good at that.

The difference here is the Marine was vetted. All I am saying is that if his character is good enough to be a Marine Sgt. It is good enough to be a citizen. I mean
aren't the "Sheen boys" citizens? Yet the younger one one not qualify to be a Marine.

Non-US citizens should not be members of the US armed forces -- period.Well, isn't that special!
You would keep such unworthy folks as Rick Rescorla out of the US armed forces.
If you don't know who Rick Rescorla was...perhaps you should educate yourself before reopening your pie hole.

I've served with some very honorable men who were not yet citizens, and am glad to do so again. One guy in my current batallion is in the process of becoming non-french, and he is a great guy and a valuable assett.
To: earplug
I really don't know nor do I really care. The point is that he is serving this country and ready to die.
