"Peaceful Entry of Force"

There was a tremendously important phrase in Secretary Powell's statement that is now going on. He said that Hussein's giving up and leaving the country would allow "the peaceful entry of force."
This means that the troops are going into the border areas (northern and southern Iraq) now, and the bombing will begin as soon as Hussein has had no more than 12 hours to get out of dodge. But this means that the troops are going in, REGARDLESS of what Hussein does -- just that the death and destruction will be far less if Hussein capitulates.

I've never heard this phrase, "peaceful entry of force," used before. I think it is NOT accidental, but deliberate, and means what I decribe.

I heard that as well.
But unfortunately I also heard Powell say that the UN is an important organization and that it will survive this crises.

Sounds like Gen. MacArthur, in 1945.

I think this is an open signal to the Iraqi generals to take Saddam and his cadres down....I think we may well see a coup.....

Yes, this was a very important statement of our intentions. I heard it and was struck by it as well. We are not going to let Saddam pull a fast one here: leave the country but still control affairs from afar with his cronies in power. We will go in and clean house. This is a new development and an important one.

"the peaceful entry of force." An oxymoronic expression for unconditional surrender.

This phrase "peaceful entry of force" sounds like something right out of 'Catch-22' or 'Nineteen Eighty-four'. LOL

Special forces have been in Iraq since last fall...with ever increasing numbers....I don't believe our general armed forces will breach the soviegntry of state (cross the bordrs)until the bombing begins.....
However, your point of are forces enterring Bagdad regardless of Saddam leaving was very clear from Powell's speech...We will be there regardless....
BTW, How are things in Western NC???

I have a feeling his boss sees it a bit differently.

I don't thin it means the underlined part, but I can see it meaning the remainder.

An oxymoronic expression for unconditional surrender. Kind of like, --- We have this warrant to serve. We can either do it the easy way or the hard way. Choose.

The object of war is not to die
for your country but to make
the other bastard die for his <p. Gen George S Patton Jr.
To: MamaLucci
Our resident CongressCritter has noticed that a careful reading of what Powell said indicates that he has explicitly stated that we are going in, and the only option left for Saddam is to leave.

This means all but the most hardline personal Saddam troops are going to surrender and likely the surrender has already beeen negotiated.

You have that exactly right. It is "an oxymoronic demand for unconditional surrender." In his speech tonight, President Bush will give Hussein and his top aides a matter of hours to get out of Dodge. He will NOT specifically mention that their immediate deaths in place would be equally useful, though that will be understood. The President's phrase may be "leave the nation," plus "permanently give up power."
I think the troops will move in to northern, southern and eastern Iraq just before the President speaks (WITHOUT the massive bombing, which won't be necessary for just that).
This will be done for three purposes: 1. Sanitize the only area from which Hussein can fire rockets into Israel. 2. Provide close support for the locals and Special Ops who will seize the northern and southern oil fields before they are blown up, if possible. 3. Accept the massive surrenders of the weakest Iraqi units at the front, in order to get those 100,000 or so "soldiers" out of the way and into guarded pens in the desert as prisoners of war.
When Hussein either doesn't leave, or isn't shot, then the bombing and full-dress invasion begins immediately. Lastly, if Saddam & co. DO leave (a highly unlikely possibility), the President will announce that there will be no amnesty for war crimes trials, no matter where he goes.
IMHO.

Do you think that Saddam has WMD? Do you think he will use them?
