Ex-Sen. Moynihan in Critical Condition
Yahoo News ^ | 3/17/03

WASHINGTON - Former Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, D-N.Y., is in critical condition at a Washington area hospital, suffering from an infection after his appendix burst, his assistant said Monday.

Moynihan, who turned 76 on Sunday, is in the intensive care unit of the Washington Hospital Center, said Vicki Bear Dodson. His appendix ruptured last Monday.

"He was doing well until late Thursday, early Friday, when an infection set in," said Dodson. "Unfortunately, there's been no change in his condition over the weekend."

Moynihan has suffered a series of health setbacks in recent months. He was hospitalized in January for an intestinal disorder and again soon after for a back injury.

Now a senior scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center, Moynihan was first elected to the Senate in 1976 and finished his fourth term in 2000. Fellow legislators named Manhattan's new federal courthouse in his honor.

"Just another 'Rat with a drinking problem."

No you do a diservice to this website and to The Good Senator. He is a liberal but one of the last few of his kind, an honest liberal!

He has never pulled punches on his ideology and is always honest when he debated!

I disagree with his view of government but he always was honest about costs! Not near what you will find in the Democrat party today!

It was Boron's single vote that stopped the Clintons' BTU tax.

My best to this good man. May God bless him.

Yes, he may be a Democrat (I won't use capitol letters on "r,a and t" here) but he's an honorable one. A good honest man doing what he thought was best for our contry. If only the DemocRATs would do the same...

Just another 'Rat with a drinking problem.

He's a MUCH better man (And I can only assume American) than you based on these comments of yours. You're disgusting. Not EVERYTHING needs to be partisan propaganda around here.

Get a freaking clue!!!

About a year ago he stopped by one of our mega-freeps while we were on Pa. Ave. He was gracious and a real gentleman. The best to the Senator and his family.

Moynihan has always been an enemy of the American citizen’s right to self-defense

Those posters who are bending over to praise him should read your post several times or at least read it until they understand it.

If Sara Brady dropped dead right now, my only reaction would be to think, "What took her so long?" Likewise Moynihan is an enemy of freedom. I'd have the same response

One of the few decent and thought-filled Dems out there. What a shame. Our prayers go out to him and his family.

I long for the days when Moynihan and D'Amato represented New York, not the two clowns Hitlery/Schumer.

pobody's nerfect. If every Dem were like him, the nation would be a much more congenial and decent place.

Besides, virtually every Dem is just as rabidly anti-gun... let's at least encourage the little buggers to come around on the other 75,000 issues that they have gone astray on. ;^)

I wonder why he prostituted himself to support Hillary's run though?

I've always wondered that myself. I think he's just too much a gentleman of the old school, and was no match for the likes of her.

Moynihan was one of the last Liberal politicians in the Democrat Party. The Socialists took over his party on his watch.

He's a gentleman, but a scrapper too. He had no compelling reason that I could see to support them. I can imagine he was disgusted by Bills antics in the WH (even though he didn't vote for impeachment).

But to wish that beast on the State of N.Y. I guess he didn't believe she would win :(

If the truth were known I'd bet it would be that Sen. Moynihan held Hillary in the same regard as what 99.99% of FReepers do.

Appendix burst? Ow! I heard that's very painful! Besides all the cross-contamination that occurs. I hope he'll be OK. I remember he said "Bomb em" when talking about terrorists. I always thought Pat looked a little "light in the loafers" but I heard he was alright.

That's because you are a total ass. You have quite the posting history to support my conclusion.

I wish him a full and speedy recovery, but can we stop calling him honorable and decent?

This is a guy who went on Meet The Press and stated that if it was determined that Clinton lied under oath, it would certainly be an impeachable offense.

Months later, he admitted that it was beyond a doubt that Clinton lied under oath, but he would not vote to convict him.

Honorable and decent my ass.

Get well soon, you bastard.

You're probably right there.

So it makes me even more angry that a successful and wealthy honorable Senator would dirty his name forever.

Oh well. Prayers for him on this St. Patricks day.
