Having Fun on the Border at Congresscritters' Expense
Self | Ides of March | JackelopeBreeder

Posted on 03/15/2003 9:40:42 PM PST by JackelopeBreeder

Howdy Freepers, from Cochise County, Arizona – soon to be known as The Scourge of Politicians. As our cohort Spiff announced yesterday, we here on the border were blessed today with the presence of Senator John McCain, Senator John Kyl, Congressman Jim Kolbe, and Congressman Raul Grijalva. All from Arizona and all here to remind us that we have not been forgotten – or at least here to find out what in hell has been happening at home since they moved to Washington, DC.

As those of you who follow the situation here know, all hell broke out here last weekend. It was absolutely the worst I have seen on the border. If you missed the earlier posts this week, hit http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/861720/posts for my viewpoint as a member of American Border Patrol viewpoint and http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/864361/posts for the Civil Homeland Defense viewpoint. I must make one important admission – it was much worse than what Chris Simcox and I put in writing. I think both of us backed off at least 50%.

Anyway, back to this morning’s follies. The various politicos held a meeting in Bisbee, and as usual, McCain made an ass of himself and had several local citizens jump down his throat. I’m not sure what was said; Spiff was there and can fill us in. My job was to get down to Naco with cameras and record (for posterior, as it were) what the politicos probably consider the freeping from hell.

Spiff and Dave Stoddard did one hell of a job getting the word out on very short notice. When I arrived in Naco, there were already about twenty people busy getting their signs ready. I got the video camera mounted on the tripod in the bed of the truck. Another twenty or so showed up, and people began to spread out down the road between the rally point and the Naco Border Patrol station. HiJinx has offered to post photos from his web space, so be patient.

The convoy full of dignitaries passed us at 10:05; Border Patrol vans with limo-style window tinting, so we didn’t see any faces. One of the trailing vehicles was standard BP and someone, staffer or security detail gave us some dirty looks. Uncle JackelopeBreeder added a left-handed one-finger salute for his benefit. After they passed, we all hightailed it for the Naco BP station.

I wish I could have seen the looks on the Congresscritters’ faces when they arrived there.

The first thing they saw was more demonstrators with signs. The next thing they saw was American Border Patrol’s Mobile Internet Satellite Transmitter with cameras rolling. What they didn’t see was the ABP Hawkeyes four miles to the southeast busy chasing illegals back through the fence while they held their official séance inside – a nice piece of irony. (The spell checker inserted that accent mark – I do not speak French. Just Korean, Japanese, Tagalog, Russian and German.)

The meeting inside had to be amusing. During the entire hour our dignitaries were being brought up to speed on the situation, one female demonstrator stood outside howling at 120 decibels-plus for Rauuul Grijalva to come outside and face the music for his past ill-considered remarks about us civilian “vigilante” scum being racist cucarachas. Guess who never showed his face? (Maybe I shouldn't say this, but the Border Patrol guys let her get much closer to the building than the rest of us and seemed rather grimly amused.)

One thing irked the bejeezus out of me. There were a large number of BP agents guarding the building and a POS @#$%^& French-made Allouette helicopter circling over theses dorks’ location the whole time, both in Bisbee and Naco. This at the same time that ABP is busy chasing people back through the bloody fence!

After an hour of palaver and pow-wow, the whole bunch jumped into their vans, ran down the road for a couple of minutes at the border port of entry, then west on the border road for lunch (catered) at a politically safe ranch.

We followed, but three helicopters descended from nowhere and whisked our distinguished visitors away.

Media coverage consisted of one local reporter and photographer (both of them friends and good guys), Luke Turf from the Tucson Citizen (who evidently took the objectivity lessons in J-school to heart and is doomed to main stream journalistic oblivion), and Mexican Univision -- their 30-minute interview with Chris Simcox should set back international relations at least a few decades.

I will end this ridiculous screed with one point -- don't fault the guys and gals wearing Border Patrol green. They are among the bravest of the brave. Last weekend has me convinced that the .45 strapped to my waist was totally inadequate. My years on the Korean DMZ were a vacation compared to what I face here at home in Arizona.

Those of you with South African experience help out. There was a Zulu regiment called the Scourge of Kings -- nGobamaKhosi. What would Scourge of Politicians be -- nGobamaDorks? Amazing what useless trivia swims to the top late at night.

I'm no hero, Libertina. I've met too many real heroes here around my home. My friends and neighbors are my inspiration and I just try to live up to their expectations.

Excellent work - thanks for going above and beyond the call for your country - AGAIN!!

Isn't there any way that you could set up some triple-strand concertina w/some pyro? Just like old days at the DMZ. Even if it is inside the buffer zone that the BP has designated, at least it would help to channel them I would think.

I guess it would matter what kind of pyro was in the wire as well.

Thanks again for all you are doing.

Here's my quick report from yesterday. No pics yet as I can't seem to get in to my account.

I'm posting from my pocketpc (wireless) so I can't post the pic of my daughter at the protest that was in today's Sierra Vista Herald. My son was on the front page on Thursday with the "Support our Troops" sign. We'll see what happens next week if I can throw a rally together.

-- -- - -- -----
Wonderful protest this morning - weather was great. We more than a couple dozen people there waving signs and banners right outside the Naco BP Station and some up the road. I got interviewed by the press (2nd time in a week) and this time it should be my daughter on the front page of the paper (my son was there on Thursday).

Chris Simcox asked some VERY pointed questions of McCain in the press conference. McCain said that what Civil Homeland Defense is doing is "borderline" illegal (what an idiot - he doesn't even know WHAT CHD is doing or WHAT the laws are of his own state).

A helicopter circled around us the entire time (what a waste of fuel) instead of patrolling the border stopping the intruders.

The whole entourage left to drive along the border road. We all followed for a while. We tried to head them off to protest some more as we though they were going to head up a ranch road. Then we saw 3 BlackHawk helicopters flying in to pick them all up.

It was a great protest. We got lots of honks and waves from local citizens and only a couple of one-finger salutes (mostly from people driving cars with Mexican license plates - hmmmmm). Wish you all could have been there.

When I drove back into Sierra Vista, there was an anti-war protest right outside the gates of the new Veteran's Cemetary. About 1 dozen idiots there. I stopped and took pictures and then smiled and told them that Saddam appreciates what they're doing. I told another that pacifists are the parasites of freedom. They were all packing up in their oil/gas-burning vehicles when I got there. Yes, they were putting their "No Blood For Oil" signs in the trunks of their oil/gas-burning cars and hippie-painted vw vans.

I'll upload pictures to a thread later.

Wow, thanks for the info. Sorry to hear more media people weren't there. I sent a bunch of emails to Phx media newstip sites. It will be good if we can get a Univision link to Chris's interview if it is in Mexico's news, ie: EFE?

I don't know where I got it, but I found an .mp3 of an interview of Raoool by Alex Jones in Texas. He was on the show in Nov, right after he won the election. When he is asked questions about the Citizen Patrols and the investigation he has called for, he stumbles all over the place, and is so obvious when he doesn't want to answer the questions. He replies with "That is not the issue" a dozen times. Jones was totally up to date on Kris Eggle's murder, border incursions and the work of the Patrols. It's 17 minutes (2mb) and so ridiculous it's almost funny. If anyone want's it, freepmail me.

Having browser problems, late getting to this thread.

Thanks JB, once again. You are one ace reporter. It is frightening, though, that you say you held back with details.
