San Antonio DJ Pulls The Plug On The Dixie Chicks
A popular country music group has some San Antonians turning off their radios. A KJ 97 DJ pulled the plug on the trio's songs after lead singer Natalie Maines made a negative comment about President Bush.
The trio is on tour overseas, but they're causing quite a stir back here at home.
"Natalie Maines before a concert audience in London, England said, and I quote, ‘Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas,’" said Keith Montgomery with KJ 97.
The comments prompted Montgomery to pull the Chicks music off the air Thursday
"I would say the reaction is 99 percent in favor of what I have done," said Montgomery.
Texans aren't the only ones upset about Maine's comments. Reaction from all over the country caused the group on Thursday to post an explanation of their stance. The group released a statement Thursday saying they have been overseas for several weeks and "the anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding. While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost."
In a separate statement Thursday, Maines said, "I feel the president is ignoring the opinion of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world. My comments were made in frustration, and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."
But in the process of putting their opinion out there, they're losing support. Angry phone calls flooded radio stations across the country Thursday, calling for a boycott of the Texas trio's music.
The Dixie Chicks will kick off a U.S. tour in support of their multi-platinum album "Home" on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina. The group's hits include "Wide Open Spaces," "Ready to Run" and "Landslide." The Dixie Chicks are coming to San Antonio in July.
Montgomery says, after hearing from more listeners, he'll decide on Friday whether to play their music on his show.

I think she's just digging her hole a little deeper. A President of the United States must earn his respect. George W. Bush has. Bill Clinton did not. Her statement should have said, "I put my foot in my mouth and screwed up. I was wrong to say what I did and I was wrong to pander to the spineless Europeans. If I ever say anything even half as stupid again, you should kick my sorry ass out of the U.S. To show you how sorry we are, we will do USO shows for the next year for free."

My guess is that the show will be canceled. If not, these gals will be "playing music" to themselves and three reporters from the local newspaper.
Nah. They will just change their target audience and pack the house again - for a while anyway. They have actually had alot of lesbian fans for years now, and they also have a pretty strong sandal-wearing following. They will be forced to become the next K.D. Lang of country. But then, she eventually disappeared off the face of the earth.
If their hippie, lesbo fans from Austin drive down for the show, it will be pretty successful. The chicks have been subtley working on changing their target audience for a while now. I think it is part of a master plan.
The story of how they dumped their original singer because Natalie Maines was their producer's daughter is one of the sleaziest tales I have ever heard. It's why I have never been a really big fan of theirs.
Natalie, if you can read, try reading newspapers for the past 12 years. Take a close look at, oh, I think it was around 1998, when Bubba Clintonn bombed Iraq for 4 days because "Saddam was the greatest threat to the security of the United States and the world." It was either that or because his impeachment trial was beginning. I can't remember which.
But I digress. We have been more than patient. If you ever looked at a newspaper for something besides your own PR, you'd know that.

You are on an airplane where the pilots and crew are dead. You are trying to reach your wife on your cell phone when you realize your plane will probably be used as a missile to kill innocents on the ground. You tell the operator to tell your wife and kids how much you love them before saying a prayer and uttering the words ... "Let's roll!"
If nobody else in the entire country had died, I would boycott the Chicks in memory of Todd Beemer.
