Dixie Chicks Remark Irks Country Fans

The Dixie Chicks are drawing harsh words from country music fans for remarks singer Natalie Maines made about President George W. Bush during a recent performance in London.

Maines told the audience earlier this week, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."

Angry phone calls flooded Nashville radio station WKDF-FM on Thursday, some calling for a boycott of the Texas trio's music.

The group released a statement Thursday saying they have been overseas for several weeks and "the anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding. While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost."

In a separate statement Thursday, Maines said, "I feel the president is ignoring the opinion of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world. My comments were made in frustration, and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."

The Dixie Chicks will kick off a U.S. tour in support of their multi-platinum album "Home" on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina. The group's hits include "Wide Open Spaces," "Ready to Run" and "Landslide."

What makes you think the other two are patriotic? I would think they all agree.

They tried to get applause at President Bush's expense. Well, they are getting it - but not what they expected.

I saw the bimbo on the right interviewing with Dan Ratherless, I swear she said when they were in their non glory days "they would play anywhere, we even played for George Bush When he was elected Govener, that's how desperate we were". I had to think it over and then I said to myself, this bitch is liberal and she is dogging Bush to the biggest Liberal ass in america. Did anyone else see this interview?

>>The D. Chicks did such a great job with the Super Bowl anthem and have really been on a roll lately<<

I always stay around for the anthem and the commercials on super bowl Sunday. But not this SB- I decided it was my patriotic duty to boycott them girls singing our beloved national anthem. I have been boycotting them ever since they made their comments regarding Toby Keiths "Angry American."

I always hate it when people screw with the National Anthem. I am almost ashamed to admit this but I think the most respectful rendition of it ever was the Backstreet Boys who I nothing about. If I could find it on tape soemwehere I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Well, if what you say is true, then I say Maines will either leave the group or get kicked out. If the other two come out and say Maines doesn't speak for them, it will cause a rift. And of course, Maines will be the one to go.

"Why turn your back when you can boo after every song!"

Either not showing up for the concert in droves or just sitting silently through the whole thing would also be awesome. The sitting silently option would obviously be impossible to organize, but it certainly WOULD be interesting.

As I understand it from the news this a.m., Kemper Arena in K.C. has cancelled the Dixie Chicks concert that was scheduled there. Good for Kemper Arena! (Although, I am sure they are doing it because they got a number of calls wishing to cancel their ticket orders.)

Do you have a link or more info or a source?

It wouldn't be the first time they Sh**-canned a lead singer! How hard could it be to find another sea-cow who sings through her nose?

Didn't get it from the net. Heard it on 710 a.m. KCMO radio. I haven't checked the station's web site to see if it is mentioned, but probably not. Might be something Kemper's site.

"Well I had been thinking of renaming them to the "Dixie Twits". "Blixie Twits" or "Blixie Chicks" works too. "

More suggestions: The Berkely Twits

It'd be priceless to "say": "Just so you know, we're ashamed the Dixie Twits are from the United States."

Well if Bill Press like 'em then that should tell every true American that the Dixie Chickens are nothing but communist, liberal, unamerican, traitors.

That's what it takes to be the friend of Bill Press.

Good grief. Why do these idiots insist on wading into things in which nobody cares what they think. I, used to, listen to the Dixie chicks because i think they are telented musicians. I couldn't care less what they thought about strawberry yogurt much less their thoughts about war with Iraq. Just shut the hell up an do what you are paid to do. If these idiots quit doing things to entice me to boycott them I'll have no entertainment left at all.

I heard them referred to as the "Ditzy Chicks." Seems to fit perfectly.

And you are just as free to boycott country western singers and the products they promote. Or did they forget that?
