Dixie Chick Explains Bush Slam At London Concert
The KCRA Channel ^ | Unattributed

Posted on 03/13/2003 2:28:48 PM PST by IowaHawk

One of the Dixie Chicks is clarifying remarks she made about President George W. Bush during a concert in London earlier this week.

Reporting on a Chicks' concert, the Web site for the United Kingdom paper The Guardian said singer Natalie Maines (pictured, center) told the crowd, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."

The singer's barb got the audience cheering, the Guardian said.

In a statement on the Chicks' Web site Wednesday, Maines said, "We've been overseas for several weeks and have been reading and following the news accounts of our government's position. The anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding."

The country trio -- consisting of Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Robinson -- are all from Texas.

"I feel the president is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world," Maines said in the statement. "My comments were made in frustration and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."

And while Maines maintains her beef with Bush, she's much more supportive of the United States troops.

"While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost," Maines said.

Whether Maines expresses her feelings about Bush on the group's North American leg of their Top of the World tour is yet to be heard. If she does, it will be in front of a lot of people.

According to music site Lauch, the group sold out 51 out of the 59 arenas in one day on March 1, which amounted to over 867,000 tickets.

The group recently won four Grammy awards including Best Country Album for their smash album "Home."

So you thought you'd "go with it," you un-American whore?

I detest people like you. You are the enemy.

I never would have expected a Texan, in time of impending war, to publically trash the Commander-in-Chief on foreign soil. A Bay Area or Beverly Hills Californian, certainly. A Texan, never.

I hope her fellow Texans share with her their opinions of her graceless disloyalty early, loud, and often.

The local ABC affiliate in Kansas City reported on the 10pm news that the 3 big country music radio stations have received an unprecedented number of phone calls against the Blixi Chicks that they have removed their songs from their line-up and one of the stations is going to have a community cd throw away tomorrow morning!!

When these featherbrained fowl flap their way back to the US may they be heard to say, "The anti-Dixie Chicks sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding."

I have a cousin at U.T. who says she is a devoted communist. And has been a liberal wacko and lesbian since high school.

(She attended a public high school in Corpus Christi).

I don't know how a person educated in Texas can be so twisted, but it shows their is something really, really wrong somewhere in the education system.

Scary, huh?

Dolly is actually pretty quiet about her politics, but Willie Nelson makes Jimah Carter look like a Bircher. He supported the communists in Nicarauga and in El Salvador during the 80's.

I think I heard them play once but not my cup of tea. I will stick with artists like Clint Black, Darryl Worley. I heard Nicholas Cage say today on the radio that his political opinion is not what he is going get paid for as an actor.

He is on my good list now, lol.

The Dixie Chunks were always more hype than talent. Pure ambition and no inspiration. Packaged and marketed like soda pop. Apparently they believed all that crap about being 'true artistes' and thought that people would always take them for serious, deep-thinkers. The only crowd that their dumb-a$$ed comments will go over well with are the same group of pampered, no-talent, drug-addled buffoons that over populate the 'entertainment' community (Janeane Garofalo comes to mind). This little stunt of theirs is a guaranteed career-killer. Five years from now they'll be lucky if they could get booked for a gig at a bowling alley or the local Sizzler restaurant (hey Natalie, at least the Sizzler has an all-you-can-eat buffet)!

BTW, Natalie looks amazingly like a blonde version of Monica Lewinsky.

Interesting...but he forgot to pay his taxes. Isn't it ironic? As far as the Dixie Chicks go from my standpoint I might recognize 1 or 2 songs by them and thats it. If they came up to me I wouldn't know who they are. The ongoing ignoring of them will continue.
