Dixie Chick Explains Bush Slam At London Concert

One of the Dixie Chicks is clarifying remarks she made about President George W. Bush during a concert in London earlier this week.
Reporting on a Chicks' concert, the Web site for the United Kingdom paper The Guardian said singer Natalie Maines (pictured, center) told the crowd, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
The singer's barb got the audience cheering, the Guardian said.
In a statement on the Chicks' Web site Wednesday, Maines said, "We've been overseas for several weeks and have been reading and following the news accounts of our government's position. The anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding."
The country trio -- consisting of Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Robinson -- are all from Texas.
"I feel the president is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world," Maines said in the statement. "My comments were made in frustration and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."
And while Maines maintains her beef with Bush, she's much more supportive of the United States troops.
"While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost," Maines said.
Whether Maines expresses her feelings about Bush on the group's North American leg of their Top of the World tour is yet to be heard. If she does, it will be in front of a lot of people.
According to music site Lauch, the group sold out 51 out of the 59 arenas in one day on March 1, which amounted to over 867,000 tickets.
The group recently won four Grammy awards including Best Country Album for their smash album "Home."

I'm going to be real interested to see if our local country station here in Columbia (WCOS-FM 97.5, www.wcosfm.com) does anything about this. It's a Clear Channel station, which means it only plays the most godawful homogenized, soulless, hideous, bland, processed, pseudo-country CRAP in the universe. I seriously doubt the local station could even make the decision to pull the Blixie Chicks' songs, they're probably programmed out of some building in Hollyweird.
Of course, Clear Channel did go overboard and pull a ton of songs from all their stations after 9/11/01. (No, no, you can't play Saliva's "Click Click Boom", not now!)

Natalie's turning out to be a trouble-maker. I wonder if the other two agree with her, or if they're chasing her with heavy blunt objects?

I am going home right now I have 3 of their CDs and I will break throw them all away.
Don't break them, Sell them, and make a donation in their name to Free Republic or some other group of which they would not approve.

Maines also says, "I feel the President is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world.I'm going to cut right to the chase, Nat---if you were any kind of an American you wouldn't give a rat's @$$ about their "feelings of alienation".
My comments were made in frustration
No, Nat, your comments were made *on stage* in a foreign country, and you got the applause you were looking for. Hope it was worth it.
and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."
You'd better mean that. You see, I expect you to be extremely tolerant of the viewpoints you're going to hear when you get back home.

The Indigo Girls should have been jailed for their version of Dire Straits "Romeo and Juliet."

These gals have the freedom to be as stupid as they want and we have the right to buy their records or NOT. Just wait and see, when their record sales start to decline, they will be convinced it's blacklisting.

I just went and voted again. (And, I'm not even from Chicago) FYI, 81% of respondents voting to ban them from the station.
Has Fox News covered this very well today? I think prime time coverage of this incident will be a nail in the career coffin.

And they also report Sheryl Ostrich is buying a farm near Nashville and beginning work on a straight country album.
Is country music really going to the dogs this quickly?
