Heard the DJ on the local country music station here in Atlanta discussing the comments made by the Dixie Chicks during their concert Saturday night in London. They 'reportedly' made the comment that they're "ashamed that Bush is from Texas" among other things.

Did a little digging and found the referenced thread on the Hollywood Halfwits page. Since I couldn't find any sign of it here on FR, I thought I'd see if anyone else had heard/knew more about it?

Speaking only for myself, I'm ashamed the Dixie Chicks are from America.

(story today about the Dixie Chicks)

....."Just so you know," says singer Natalie Maines, "we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." It gets the audience cheering - at a time when country stars are rushing to release pro-war anthems, this is practically punk rock.

______________________________________ I hope country music fans will get on the phone to their stations and demand that anti-American artists NOT be played on their stations. ... To criticize the POTUS on foreign soil at time of war is beyond the pale.

I posted a message at their site. I do think it would be beneficial if we kept from calling them "pigs," "sluts," etc. Name-calling is not going to help make a point.

Appears to me daddy never told these girls to keep their mouths shut. It causes them trouble because they can’t engage the brain fast enough. Maybe they can write a book next…. "How I tanked my singing career in three easy steps".

My letter to the K-92 FM program director:

Thank you for your fine radio station and your music selection. I'm really glad your signal makes it over here to the Space Coast. I'm writing today as I've just learned about the Dixie Chicks on-stage words last Saturday night in England. The quote is ' "Just so you know," says singer Natalie Maines, "we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." ' Well, I am now ashamed the Dixie Chicks are from America, sing Country ... I think you get the drift.

Just looking at your web site, I can guess this doesn't fit in well with your programming or your audience. While I can understand it might not be possible for your station to completely stop playing music by the Dixie Chicks, please understand that I can stop listening to the radio at the push of a button and it might be a good 75 minutes or so before the CD finishes playing or I realize I've switched off my favorite station. Just so you know.

I posted a message to the NYC WLTW lite rock station(i.e. only one step up from elevator). They play all this lite garbage that I'm subjected to at work daily. If I can elinimate one song, perhaps something better will get in there. Although I fear more Cher songs(a constant rotation favorite)

Feel free to send your displeasure as well. The whole station is horrible, but anything to add to their pain is a good thing.

Down with the Chix!

I think the Dixie Chicks should go back to Canada, or where ever they are from. No class at all to do that on Foreign soil. Why don't you come back to America and say that to our faces? You bunch of pansie nitwits. I never liked the Dizie Chicks anyway and found them kind of nauseating.

Natalie's husband (left). She married a fag. What do we expect?

The Dixie Chicks have been performing with and singing with Sheryl Crow for four years or so, I think. Gawd these people just cave to peer pressure like they never had an original thought in their life.

Anyway---Natalie's home life probably isn't, well, normal, so maybe she isn't responsible for what she says.

Be sure to send a copy of your letters to Sean Hannity, too. He is a big country fan, has some of the stars on his show, and can probably have a bigger impact than us individually. Mailing him now ... FReep on!
