Actor Don Johnson is caught up in a money-laundering probe by German authorities, who say they found the "Miami Vice" star in a car with a suitcase stuffed with $8 billion worth of share certificates, bonds and credit notes when he crossed the Swiss border, it was revealed yesterday. Regardless of whether it was 8 billion or not, it could have been. It wasn't in bills, but in certificates, bonds, and credit notes. Those can be written in very large denominations, so that it would be quite possible to carry it in a briefcase.

Maybe it was in Deutsche Marks.

Okay this wasn't the image I was wanting to post, but it was the best I could do.

I wonder how far the nearest Swiss Bank deposit box was from the location of the incident at the German border..

Either that or he's a spy. I can't wait to find out the real truth on this one.

Yep, the truth will be entertaining, if nothing else. I think Don has let himself go since his days of acting glory, so I don't think he's a player in any real sense. He's not the initiator, nor is he to be trusted to play an independent role requiring judgement in the face of danger. However, he could be used, for example, as a mule for counterfeit security certificates.

Those Miami Vice residuals must be quite lucrative!

Seriously, the amount of the money does not surprise me. There are billions and billions of dollars in the underground economy, mostly as a result of the drug trade but also gambling and other forms of organized racketeering. Not to mention all that Middle East oil money being laundered to keep terrorists and third world dictators equipped with all the latest weaponry. Then you have the Clintons!

The United States could rein a lot of this money back in by doing away with the federal income tax and going to a consumption-based tax. But that's an argument for another day.

Or, it could very well be that he was black mailed into doing this.

How long will it be before The Smoking Gun has all this on their website?

The one thing for sure is that he didn't make the money by acting.

Or singing. That record of his from the 80's should be labeled as a weapon of mass destruction. I think MTV voted the video to be the worst ever made...even beating Vanilla Ice for that honor!

Denise Hale was married(now widow) to either the founder or family inheritor of Carter,Hawley Hale Stores, which, alas, are no more.

I am confident you can back up your claims with some sort of documentation, aside from the news stories we've all seen that so-and-so was busted for having x tons of hashish and "authorities also found numerous weapons and large amounts of cash."

Allegations that a person *might* have acquired money in an illegal activity don't hack it in a court of law. And if you, as others on this thread have, suspect that a person's association with known thespians is proof enough that he's into drugs, sex and rock-and-roll and therefore a likely person to be laundering somebody else's billions -- or is it millions? -- maybe we need a law to prohibit such activity.

The law would be titled, "A Prohibition on Jumping to Conclusions."

I was thinking more like John DeLorean--setting up a killer coke deal to finance his car production line.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not jumping to any conclusions. Neither are the authorities. That is why they are launching an investigation first. This is a long way from a court of law. Only if the investigation turns up something does the case then proceed to the courts.

So what we are talking about is grounds for an investigation, not a conviction.

I would argue that $8 billion in a car trunk is certainly grounds for an investigation. You, I presume, consider tbis to be nothing out of the ordinary and insufficient grounds to start asking questions?

She is a hottie..(and 21) is he 50?

There is only one thing that will make a woman overlook the fact that you're physically imperfect: Money and fame.

There are only two things that will make a woman overlook the fact that you're physically imperfect: Money, fame and power.

There are only two ... THREE! Three things that will make a woman overlook the fact that you're physically imperfect...
