We are planning another major rally on 3/22, right on the heels of our awesomely successful rally on 3/8.
We had 1500 people on the 8th; I want 3000 people on the 22nd!
A lot of work needs to be done, please FReep mail me if you are able to volunteer.
Current Needs:
Cash Contributions (to enable us to secure the venue permit, and materials (flags, etc)) - I'll set us up on PayPal tomorrow.
A sound system: We need a professional caliber sound system to deal with this size crowd. If you or someone you know would be willing to contribute the use of a sound system and the expertise to operate it, please let me know.
Flags: If you can contribute any number of flags for distribution at the event, they would be much appreciated. Let's turn downtown red, white, and blue!
Signs: A sign-making committee would be helpful. Let me know if you'd like to serve in this capacity.
Set-up and tear-down: We'll need people to assist in setting up a stage, etc.
Speakers: We have some on deck already, but if you have ideas, or contacts, please let me know.
Grassroots Outreach: I'd like to have a few people focused on identifying and contacting organizations that would attend en masse: Churches, veterans organizations, civic organizations, etc.
More needs will surely emerge between now and then, so the list is subject to change. Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions.
Lastly, please do not post anything on this thread that you do not want to end up in the hands of the antis.

Hey LouD.
If I remember correctly Brian posted on the 3/8 thread that he can provide a sound system. He also said the Sheboygan Am Legion wanted to participate.
Did you have a spot in mind? I could contact the parks dept. and ask about cheaper spots.
Also mebbe we should contact the 440th and reserve units for participation.

Brian described his system as "slightly better than a bullhorn" - I thought I'd see if we can get someone with a real setup to help out.
Yes, go ahead and check out other options. Maybe State Fair Park?

I've contacted TMJ for a count on the petition. Also, I asked if she could get us in touch with the people that provided the sound system on 3/8/03. To obtain flags, contact local American Legion Posts. I'm contacting the commander of the Milwaukee Chapters for their assistance. I think I can get them to contact the local bases, or even statewide.

I wonder if my new sign/tagline would be welcome (I can back it up).

Statewide Rally Ping - we need your help.
Don't be shy, if you want off the list, let me know. Thanks.

Are you coming up with a name for this group? It would make it much easier to deal with the media outlets. They're often looking for a name of a group sponsoring it before they'll even consider posting a press release...I used Republican Party last time, but that's really not reflective. Do we want to use FreeRepublic...would we need Jim Rob's approval...or something new that combines all the groups.

I will not be able to help with the planning of this event as I am travelling extensively this week and next. We will, however, try like the dickens to be at the rally.

We had 1500 people on the 8th; I want 3000 people on the 22nd!Can we get access to the WTMJ In Our Name database? Or can you convince WTMJ to do a mass-email of this event using their database?

I received the following email from FReeper BobJ directed to the Ozaukee County Republican Executive Committee:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 10, 2003
Contact: Bob Johnson (BobJ@freeper.org) (310) 920-0797 FREE REPUBLIC NETWORK CALLS FOR NATIONWIDE RALLIES IN SUPPORT OF TROOPS
(Washington, DC) The Free Republic Network and Young Americans for Freedom are calling for nationwide rallies in support of America, our military, and the war against terrorism. Earlier today, Bob Johnson, National Director of the Free Republic Network and Jason Harding, Executive Director of Young Americans for Freedom, released the following statement on behalf of their organizations:
According to a recent CBS News poll, 69% of Americans support the use of military action in Iraq. Removing Saddam Hussein from power and eliminating his weapons of mass destruction is a necessary step in ensuring the safety and security of Americans and of freedom loving people everywhere.
We feel it is critical for Americans to stand together to demonstrate to our fellow citizens, our soldiers, our nation and the world our resolve to support our troops, stand in opposition to terrorism and terrorists, and endorse the liberation of the Iraqi people.
Today, we call on every American to help organize or attend a Rally for America event during Liberty Weekend, March 22nd and 23rd, to support these resolutions.
Information on locations, dates, times, tools and resources for organizing a Rally for America event in your area can be found at www.freeper.org. Information on Young Americans for Freedom can be found at www.yaf.com. Jason Harding can be reached at (703) 249-0777 or Jason_Harding@Hotmail.com.
The Free Republic Network is a 501(c)(4) public service corporation whose mission is to organize, train and support conservative activists nationwide. It provides information and services to more than 50 regional and issue-based chapters around the country, and serves as the activism arm of www.FreeRepublic.com.

Will we be coordinated with his list?
To: afraidfortherepublic; All
Thanks for posting that, AFTR. As soon as we have a firm date and place we'll post our rally info at FR Network. I'm of the understanding there will be some national advertising for this. I've already been to the site and they've got some good ideas, but I think we need to decide if we're going to be a separate organization connected to this, or if we're going to go under the FR Network name.
Check out the links for rally info at http://www.freerepublic.org and let us know what you think.

Although I think it's a good idea, they had promoted this petition drive telling people their names would not be used for other purposes. I can't imagine them wanting to release that info to an outside group. I'm also guessing that a good portion of the 40,000 names are from out of state. I've had the "In my name" link sent to me from 5 different states so far...it's making the rounds.

Although I think it's a good idea, they had promoted this petition drive telling people their names would not be used for other purposes. From the IN OUR NAME petition:
"We're asking for additional information so we can contact you. There may be future aspects of IN OUR NAME that you will want to hear about."
I can't imagine them wanting to release that info to an outside group.
Nor can I. Though I'd suspect they'd help if asked.
I'm also guessing that a good portion of the 40,000 names are from out of state.
No doubt, but I'd guess that most of the first 10 or 20K who signed it are probably from around here, and listeners of Sykes and Wagner.

Also, you can be "the Free Republic Chapter of Yada yada". That's how most do it. If other organizations are looking for an established entity, the FRN is a qualified non profit organization. You can site us as the "umbrella" organization.
